You're no metalhead but your reviews rule. Hell, the only person in the thread who knows what metalhead means is Ken, and he likes Static-X.

well, i'm not 100% metal as well so i won't blame anyone, as long as someone has still a bit of a good taste in music, all is well. BUT however, this is METALreviews so i'd like METAL (or at least metal related) reviews here.

I still think the idea of reviewing non-metal on a metal site is off somehow. It just is. You can say whatever you like about being open minded or whatever the fuck you cook up, it's a metal site, why shouldn't there be METAL within?

That said, I'm not opposed to reading non-metal reviews, or listening to music that isn't metal. So, I will be interested in any reviews Misha puts forward, even if I think they are in the wrong place.

I just have a question, what did drive you away from black metal ? I know I asked you on msn but I still don't get how someone stops listening to it all of a sudden. You can listen to jazz or whatever but why don't you even give the new black metal stuff a chance ? There are still great albums coming, just the way you like them.

It's easy, black metal is mostly the same now, there are some bands that jump out, like Thy Catafalque, Mystic Forest, Drudkh, and you can finnish the row yourself. I'll be listening to those bands that did something original, and I'll be open to new bands that really do something special. Hence my review on Sólstafir and Darkestrah, I'm just bored with all the BM that is the same as all the other BM, or a tiny little bit different. Also, I'm not trying to distract people from metal with my reviews, I'm just showing that there really is A LOT more than metal. Think for a second, haven't I showed you tens of bands that you like? Don't you realise that Thy Catafalque, whom I know you like, have dance and techno beats instead of traditional BM drumming? If you just try some of what my reviews offer, then I'm sure you'll broaden your horizons, and find something of your liking in what I offer. Do you think one year ago I was thinking I would have wanted anything else than black metal for the next 20 years?

And you always go back. I never understood how someone could listen to the same bands/styles all the time. I go through phases, then kind of get sick of listening to, say, power metal. So I then move onto something totally different like Tori Amos-like stuff, chicks with pianos. Then I may go death metal. But eventually you'll come back to black metal. It happens.

But, of course, some people can't understand that someone may like different things.

If someone reviews the new Sarah McLachlan album, sure, I can understand, but there are people here who would get upset if a nu-metal album was reviewed. I think anything metal and rock should be OK because metal is VERY broad and the definition of metal differs from person to person. And also rock is just very close to the metal genre, so I don't see a problem there.

I think there is a lesson in there somewhere - don't burn yourself out quickly by downloading everything you hear about. It will probably take me many years to hear all the BM that some of you have.

And Ken is correct about cycles - I still listen to music (Judas Priest, Dio, Ozzy, etc.) that I first heard over 20 years ago, although I didn't 10 years ago, or even 5!

Also, in a way having Misha's reviews around may help us all prevent metal burnout - so let's have them! (plus I'm too lazy to go to another site)

We get it, you're opened minded, we're not, blah blah. That doesn't change the fact that this is a metal website, and hence, metal should be reviewed. People are more than welcome to review and listen to whatever they want; but non-metal reviews have no place on the site. It'd be like www.theforce.net starting to report on Star Trek, or a website devoted to the Republican party advertising for the democrats. There are more than enough non-metal review sites and shitty metal sites without this, one of the only consistently good ones, starting to suck.

That's just my opinion. The same words.
But boundaries of metal are broad. I don't matter if here is revised nu-metal, progressive rock, hair metal or grunge, for example. All these genres are in the boundaries of metal-non metal.

The problem is when is not metal related. Jazz, classical, blues, disco, pop...

I listen music that is not metal, (I can't stand jazz, but that's a personal thing) but not sure if a Wagner, a Martires del Compás (flamenco group that I like a lot) or Bjork review will be here in place. And it's not problem if I like them or not, is problem with the "Metalreviews" name and what it means.

And it's just a personal opinion. Nothing more or less. Misha is a great reviewer, and I'll read his reviews being metal or not.

Seriously, I was totally joking.

The thing about being a reviewer, though, is that you're obligated to review some albums outside of the scope of what this site may be. If Century Media sends an album by a hardcore band, do we not review it? You have to! If not they won't send the metal albums all of you guys do want reviewed.

Also, someone like Mike reviewing a rock album, or me reviewing a hardcore album like Ramallah, is done because it is all-ecompassing of metal. Melodic metal like Masterplan is not far off from rock, what Dio is doing now is rock. Would you complain about a new Dio album being reviewed? Of course not. It's all relative and until reviewers start reviewing punk or folk or whatever, I don't think it's worth complaining. 99% of what is reviewed here is still metal.

Good point.

The solution is for CM to stop sending you albums by hardcore bands, or better yet stop signing hardcore bands. But I don't see that happening.

I think that's the problem, I'll be reviewing everything I like, that means some metal, but also post-rock, and moreover, everything from classical to tango, to experimental jazz, to neo-folk, to world and chamber music. Anyone remember Kátai Tamás? That's a good example, and it wasn't so bad was it?

Metal is my planet and other music styles are my satellites.
