Why do some of you love "Superheroes" but not many of the other songs? I think "Superheroes" is essentially the style this whole album is in, heavy rock songs with goddamn catchy hooks. You people are weirdos! :D

I don't necessarily love "Superheroes." I actually hated it when I first heard the EP. Then it kind of grew on me. It is one of the stronger tracks on the album following behind "Return to the Tribe" (now there is an awesome song).

Hehe...besides "Trinidad," "Return To The Tribe" is my least favorite. I find it to be terribly weak, just boring.
:shock:

Don't give me that look! :evil: I also find "Sacrifice" to be another of the weaker tracks. You must understand, I come from the school of 80's rock, so that's why I love the songs like "Wasted Time," "Rocket Ride," "Fucking With Fire" and "The Matrix." I'll take that shit over typical power metal any day of the week—which is what "Sacrifice" and "Return To The Tribe" is.

Conclusion - some people see the power metal glass half empty, some half full.

I agree. I found that song and the title track to be the two weakest tracks.
NESS, like Eyesore said, if you like Superheroes, you should like around half of the album, including Matrix, Wasted Time, Catch Of The Century and Fucking With Fire....how could you not like Fucking With Fire :shock:

Do you even like 80's hard rock/metal NESS? Cause if you do, then these tracks are just like them...

I like 80's hard rock, but I don't like this.

I like 80's hard rock, but I don't like this.

I don't like it either. Sammet isn't a hard rock vocalist.

True, Sammet doesnt have the traditional 80's hard rock voice, its too high, but he does a fine fine job on this album. He's singing in a fun style, which makes these tracks even better.

Still cant work out why some people loath this album

If I like Power Metal this much

{.............................................}

and hard rock this much

{.......................}

you can understand my disappointment when an excellent power metal band makes a hard rock record, can't you?

The only person wasting their time in this thread is you.

Sorry to dig this back up, but didn't people see this coming? People rave about Hellfire Club, but there were a few AOR and 80s-ish tracks on it as well. Three, maybe four songs on that album can truly be called power metal. The other rest somewhere inbetween. The Piper never Dies is an awesome song, but it's definitely more akin to a song like Asylum. So is Navigator. LLM is akin to Catch of the Century or Fucking with Fire (which I think, along with Trinidad, should have been a B-side - the album's only major missteps IMO). Matrix follows the same AOR path as King of Fools.

I can understand a power metal fan having issues with this release, but my point is that this release to me seems like an obvious progression for the band, and I like to see bands evolve, even if it's not toward my favorite style of music because I just admire diversity. How can people praise HC with all its AOR and 80s influences while having problems with the same elements in this album. Sure, RR leans a little further than HC, but it's still not THAT much different if you compare the songs to each other.

Well, I have no problems with bands evolving and I really think Rocket Ride is a fucking killer album save for "Trinidad," which is fucking terrible. I can see people being a bit shocked, though. Sure, Hellfire Club had some rock moments, but in the end it was more metal/power metal than anything else. Rocket Ride is quite a leap up that evolutionary line, though. I think in order for it to have come off more as a natural progression they could have fit another album in between. Then the shock may not have been so hard-hitting, you know? As it stands, the gab between Hellfire Club and Rocket Ride is pretty big.

Great albums either way, if you ask me.

I still don't think it's that big a gap though. I mean, there are only a few typical PM songs on HC (We Don't Need a Heroa and Rise of the Morning Glory, with Down to the Devil and Under the Moon somewhere inbetween), and the singles released were from the rock side of the album. To me, this showed exactly where they were headed, and RR is exactly the balance I expected.

I could see it coming, and I wasn't shocked - but that doesn't mean I had to like it.

I'd like to know what your definition of Power Metal is, cause you seem to be all over the place with Hellfire Club. Its all a form of power metal just with Edguy's own style put in which they have done with every album.

I dont understand how you can put Down To The Devil and Under The Moon as "somewhere in between". Its power metal for god's sake. The only 2 songs which had more of a rock feel to them, are Lavatory Love Machine (which is awesomly funny) and King Of Fools (which is really just more slower and melodic than the others, and IMO the best song on the album).

I dont know if you are more picky and precise with listening to power metal albums, and one thing can make you say, thats something inbetween....to me if i found myself doing that every time, i would get so annoyed at myself...

As for Rocket Ride, like Eyesore, i too think that its an awesome album, AND i like Trinidad too. Yes, this release is more rock oriented, but still includes everything we love about Edguy

I don't get that specific for myself with power metal. To me, the best power metal bands are those that have evolved beyond the confines of "standard" power metal. I was using that (fast, lots of double-bass, etc.) as a reference to point out that they have been leaning toward the more mid-paced rockers for a couple of albums now. I personally like bands to get away from typical power metal to the extent that they can forge their own identities, and I like Rocket Ride. I just think that it sounds like the next step for me because I had suspicions of this type of album coming as soon as I heard RR. I meant inbetween on songs like Under the Moon because it was mid-paced and that the chorus always reminded me of the 80s. That's how I saw it. I wasn't trying to turn this into a debate on what power metal is. I was just using the typical standards normally associated with power metal as a point of reference.

I also think that this album is the kind made to grow on you as well. Some of the songs that I didn't immediately like grew on me after a few listens, so I hope people who didn't initially like the album will give it another chance. The songs are still definitely Edguy.

As far as Trinidad goes, I like that original metal/calypso mix, but I think the lyrics (while occasionally funny) seem really rushed.
