Hello guys. Been lurking these forums for quite a time, and I finally got a good enough reason to post. So ...

This is a mp3 sample of a song from my band, called Bruma. All I want is a sincere opinion, about the music itself,of course, but also of the quality of the recording. Please excuse the computer drums. There are very few studios here where recording with acoustic drums is posibble. Any comments welcome ...

Lose the drum machine, you know this. Lose the high-pitched vocals, they sound comical. Not bad overall. A beefier production would make for a pretty cool tune, but those high-pitched parts are not very good. Is the singer saying "Fellas!"? I'd also suggest a little more conviction with the vocals, just a bit heavier.

I am verry open to any suggestion ... as i said earlier recording with acoustic drums is verry expensive in our country ... that's why we recorded this as a demo ... if a label will be interested we'll do major sacrifices and record with acoustic drums ... As about the voice ... we'll re-record that again depending on the feedback we receive. As it will be our first material released we can change about anything as we do not have a written pattern that we MUST follow...

Thanx for your feedback ... Ursu - Bruma drums

OK, I think the vocalist should be more agressive, or melodic-pick one. Interspersing high pitched yelps with some kinda half aggresive voice doesn't really work. It's not your fault, but yeah-that drum machine is hella annoying. Overall it's OK, sounds a bit like Master of...era Metallica in some of the guitar work-but it would greatly benefit from a differant production-again, out of your hands. In the end, I like some of the guitar work, but overall it just needs some more work. :)

Everithing we did is self released ... we did it as we thought it was the best ... we aren't signed to any label and we do not have a producer ... we are only 1 year old adn this was our first encounter with a studio (not extremely expensive but not verry cheap and we had to pay for everithing ourselves) ... at this matter we are verry unexperienced, so keep your reviews coming ... and in two weeks we'll go back an change stuff depending on your feedbacks ...

The yelpy vocals have to go! Furthermore, the lead vocals sound extremely thin and pitchy the higher he sings. If you're going to use high pitched vocals, they have to be done right (Halford, Kiske, Dickinson, etc...). Your vocalist just isn't cut out for this style. Can he sing with power in the middle ranges? You might want to explore that option. Then, if you want to add some high pitched vocals or shrieks, maybe use some harmony vocals with the rest of the band. Seriously, the squeals on this song ruin it for me; just being honest. But, if you really want you music to feature higher pitched vocals and shrieks, you need to find a new vocalist. If not, let you current vocalist explore with middle ranges instead.

The guitar playing and the arrangement itself is pretty good. So, I think you have a good base to build upon here. Clean up the vocals, come up with a demo EP, and start sending it out for reviews and to labels. The production and drumming are beyond your control, and labels will realize this when evaluating your sound.

Good luck to you. Keep working at it, you really do have some good ideas here.

There's one thing i haven't told all of you ... our vocalist is only 18 years old ... and his voice is in that state when it's changing form a boy's voice in a man's ... Yes .. it will be a good idea to transpose all the high pitched voice into midrange and after the "voice changing" process is finnished i'll make him try high pitched voice again... I am glad to hear that a label will understand the bad production and computer made drums ... i guess that's the purpose of a demo, right?

Thanks for your reviews ... they were verry helpfull and profesional ...

Sometime today i'll post a link to a song without high pitched vocals ... so you can post your opinions about it here ... i must warn you it's the same production, the same drum machine ...

Much better with the vocals. This is actually a really cool song for the most part. This is your vocalists base, so to speak. It still sounds like he's still a little reserved, like he's not in their just letting it fucking rip, you know? But this is the area he should base his vocals in. Work on that first, develop that and make that stronger. Then experiment with going lower and higher in pitch, the latter being the hardest, of course. He may just not be able to pull it off, and honestly I don't think he can. That's no big deal if he's willing to put the work in.

This is definitely a kick ass tune, though.
