I agree with everything you said Ben, except maybe the final score.
Legend Of The Bone Carver is much more a professional album than Melancholy Beast was and it shows in the overall quality of the songs. I'm still having troubles with getting into the first song "The Birth" but from there is all gold. The ballad may not be the best i've heard but it gets the job done. I also love the folk melody in Bring Back Life but the best song for me is Ancient Words Within.

P.S. I really can't imagine this album sung by someone else than Lance...he kicks ass.

I agree that this album surpasses their great debut MB. In fact I would even say that this is one of my fav metal albums of all time. As great as the first album was I still was not expecting Legend of the Bonecarver to be this good. 99 is my score. About as perfect of an album as you can get IMO. Well done Pyramaze! Fav cuts are 'The Birth' has one of the best choruses I've ever heard, 'What Lies Beyond', Souls in Pain' and the crushing closer 'Tears of Hate'.

PS. Question for Ben, you stated this album surpasses MB. Why did you score this one lower? Just curious.

Peace..........

It took me a few listen to finally get into this one. I don't think it matches up to MB, the songs on that album grabbed me a lot more than this one.

Everytime I hear the narative part I can't help to think of the Into to "Shout At the Devil" by The Crue.

I'm really looking forward to this release. Melancholy Beast was in my top 3 in 2004. The CD can't arrive in the mail soon enough.

I'm totaly new to this band but afer hearing two tracks i'm honestly not that impressed. I'm sure it must just be me, concept ablums usually have to be listened to as a whole so i'll probably have to buy the album to get into it.

You know Ben, I always thought the first Pyramaze CD was rated a little high by you (high 80's for me). Though I always thought Forsaken Kingdom was one of the best Power Metal songs ever, and still think so. This one though I think is better than the first one and I totally agree with the score. And it's one of those CDs you really gotta listen to start from beginning due to the storyline and I find it really enchances the experience when you do that. I would say currently this is one of the most interesting and entertaining Power Metal bands out there right now.

Hmm, I just heard it. They remind me a lot of Mercenary (good singer + good songs + good keys, average everything else), except the guy from Mercenary can send chills down my spine with his voice while for this I just think "he knows what hes doing"

I wouldnt recommend trying a concept album as one's first experience with any band. Soo far I have only heard clips from this album and their previous release but I like what I hear. Maybe you should give Melancholy Beast a try first before you take a serious listen to this one, you might appreciate this one at least a little more afterwards.

I was just curious about the rating too... Guess it just shows that the rating system is flawed, or that the reviewers have gone OTT one too many times... Image

From what i've heard in my brothers car, its pretty fuggin good! The intro is pretty cheezy but that doesn't really matter.

This album is not as good as the first one, but still worth the purchase if you're into melodic metal such as myself. I have to say that The Birth is the best song I've heard this year. Damn that chorus! What Lies Beyond is also a very mystical, hypnotic track that gets a lot of rotation on my cd player. The first 5 tracks are great, but I find tracks 6 through 10 to be pretty generic and average at best.

She Who Summoned Me would have been much better if the female vocalist was more intense and aggressive in her singing. The story, much like the cd, sort of dies off at the end. There's all this build up leading to the final battle, and the Bone Carver just sort of beats this unnamed evil at the end with only a single song describing the event. Pyramaze really should've added another song or two to describe the evil force a bit more. The ending was too abrupt.
