This is a really good CD. Yes, the production is a bit thin compared to the standard this day and age, but I still find this to be a great, old school power metal album! Check the video on the site for sure. A lot of you here should dig on this one.
Hi Ken:
I think this review really brings to a head my struggles (sometimes) with the scoring system. There's not really enough solid songs to be "very good" but yet it has some good qualities and "fair" doesn't really do it justice. If there was a "good" category in between, that's where this album would get scored. I initially liked what I heard after the first couple of listens but as I got into it more, I realized that it was mainly the vocals (especially the chorus sections) that caught my ear. As I listened more closely, I sensed some shortcomings in the overall creative process to produce a great power metal CD. It's easy to like this CD as I'm sure that many will but this style has been done to death already and hence the bar is raised pretty high. I like their style and with their vocalist, they have lots of potential. They're just not quite there yet.
I can see a 68/100 being acceptable. I think it all depends on what you look for in an album. I listen to so much music that it's very hard for me to listen to something too much to the point where I'm getting sick of it and starting to analyze every little thing that goes on. I listen for enjoyment, I try to not over-analyze because that leads to me beginning to hear flaws that are maybe skewed a bit because I've over-listened. Yes, on the surface, this album has some flaws, but taken at face value I find it to be quite enjoyable. It's a solid release and I think an 85 out of 100 is also justifiable depending on how you take your music.
