It depends for me. I sometimes start a conversation and sometimes don't say anything or acknowledge them in any way. Most of the time you can say whether the person wearing a metal t-shirt is a metal head, but sometimes get fooled. I happened to see a guy wearing a Megadeth t-shirt and he borrowed a light from me. Just thought I would strike a conversation, so I asked him, "So, you like Megadeth?" and he was like, "What? Wat's that?" I din't try again

Well I don't usually make a conversation only if someone is dressed in a certain way, unless the situation is somehow favorable. But I still acknowledge their presence in a way if they also do it. Usually a little nod or a smile is enough. Sometimes it's awkward when you're wearing a band shirt and someone yells it out loud for example in a bar :)...

*tuts*

Never really come across any tr00 metalheads, and I'm hardly metal-looking myself, so no, not really.

i'm more likely to nod at someone wearing a Yes t-shirt or something psychedelic looking than someone bedecked in studs and denim. the noticeably obvious metalheads tend to be of the mallgoth or bay-thrash-and-power persuasions and I don't really have much to say to them..

Yeah, same here...

At gigs I get into lengthy debates about metal, it's fun.

When I was on the way to Exodus a guy who must've had hair down to his waist saw me and growled something, then complimented me on my patches. I was like, OK, haha.

I ignore them generaly.

Its no like listening to Iced earth is some secretive cult that i should befriend every mutual fan.

At the record shop i try to strike up conversations with metal fellows. I have found in my area, any female though that is looking at metal is fucking sketchy. maybe its just my luck that all three of them i have seen in my life have been as such. I know there are some nice women who like metal, as i see on this web site. But im thinking their not the majority.

Im gradualy getting to the point where i don't talk to the men because if their not sketchy as shit, their opinionated assholes as much as i am. To this end my best friend listens to Off-kilter and my girlfriend is a journey freak.

I'm thinking about slaying a few poseurs at my school tommorow to show my metalness.

There's no real way anyone can really tell I'm "metal", besides the long hair, becuase I very seldom wear band shirts. I'll usually wear my Nevermore shirt or Nile hoodie once a month, but other than that, I don't really dress that "metal".

So usually, I'll be the one acknowledging. But usually, I don't do much acknowledging, since all I get here are dumb little kids who think they're all cool in their Children Of Bodom or Venom shirts, or something... Even then, they're your typical "DEATH TO POSEURS!!!" obnoxious types anyways who can't accept the fact that there actually might be some good mainstream music out there... Such a hard concept to grasp.

What? I've been described by a lesbian friend of mine as "the dykiest straight girl" she knows. It doesn't mean anything bad. In this case, I'm using it to mean all the Ani- and Alix Olson-listening hordes in the Pioneer Valley.

Generally when I refer to someone as a "dyke" I'm directing that towards the diesel clam lappers. You may want to smack her next time she says that.
