I'm talking Texas Hold 'Em

So, who plays?

A friend from my work got me into it about 6 months ago, now i cant get enough of it.
Mostly play online at party poker, still using play chips, but still play very serious.
Not prepared just yet to put my hard earned money in it and play for real.
I do play with friends, usually once a week for real money. I love it, its such a fantastic game, where you need to play it for a long time to be really good and yet you still learn new things every time.

So many things to remember and learn, the skill of being able to read people, and (something some people can never tell) know when you are beat, lol.

Anyone play online or with friends or at casinos?

I play. Now that it's trendy to play Hold 'Em all my friends play, too. That's good and bad. Hahaha. I play online at Ultimate Bet, mostly free games, but I've thrown down a $20 here and there. It's tough playing online, though, especially the free games. All these turds are betting the max pre-flop just because it's free money so it's hard to find a good table some times.

It's definitely fun, though.

it's quite fun... won a couple of bucks from three of my "friends" the other day while we were heading to a small island by train... i rocked!!! 8) texas hold-em is my favourite poker game.. when i was little we always played the lame one where u are given 5 cards at the beginning, and then u can choose to change some of da cards.. quite annoying, and quite hard to guess how good your opponents cards are

I know what you mean. In the sit n go's, where you have 10 people. First hand, someone goes all in. One time, 6 people called this guy's all in. They all lost, he had pocket aces.
Its a good strategy, if you have the right hand. It would be a good start if you can double up straight away. Risky too, but like you say, it is only play money

I never play online, and I'm not much for hold 'em, but I've been playing all manner of draw and stud games since I was 7. My personal favorites are lowball and Hamlet.

I like playing a few rounds where no one knows their hands, but see everyone else's. You hold the cards up to your forehead. It's fucking hilarious to see someone fold with pocket aces when there are two aces on the table. It's brutal.

I play hold 'em. Used to play online a lot but havn't got the time anymore, to busy writing songs and practicing guitar. Mostly play with friends every so often, really just an excuse to get drunk but its always fun.

going to our local casion in a few weeks with a few friend. One of them walked in with £10 and left with £250 a few months back playing blackjack.

I have played about a dozen real games with 8 or so people. I know a bit about it too. I kinda lost interest this year because it is very trendy right now and most of the people I played with only played while drunk/high. I used that to my advantage though as I'm up $150 for my career.

Yeah, but the good thing about it being trendy is that not everyone really knows the game. Sure, they know what beats what, but these tools bet on a 2/7 unsuited, pre-flop! You can take 'em for a ride and win some cash!

I was quite into it a year ago, but it was getting too addictive, and I'm not a millionaire, so I quit. Fun for a while, though.

I hate cardgames, they bore me, like most games. Only poker I've ever played is strip poker.

Hold 'em poker is far from boring, but i guess the game cannot interest everyone.

Yeah, i've seen people raise with 2/7, 3/9 unsuited preflop, while you have your pocket kings/aces/queens.

But the good thing about poker is that even if you do have shit cards, you can still win. The odds may be against you, but that 10% or less chance you may have sometimes comes about.

I was playing heads-up online with this guy, he had about 10,500 in chips, i had 9,500 in chips. I got duce/6 off suite, he ended up having pocket kings. I called the blind, he checked. Flop came down 5, 4, J. Both checked, next card: 3. I had my straight, bet a third of my stack, he came over the top so i went all in. Last card was trash, i took all his stack and had 19,000, he had 1000. Next hand of course he had to go all in, think he had 10/Q, i had pocket duces. Ended up making a set and won the game

Thing about playing beginners is they make unpredictable moves, so sometimes you can be caught of guard by their stupidity rather than their brilliance!

That is true, but if you are good enough it shouldnt take long to be able to read them. Because they are beginners they make the same moves, bet the same amount for different hands, etc. Unpredictable moves would only include playing with trash hands as well as good ones, and they rarely bluff or if they do, its easy to detect.
But yes, you can get caught out at times, it can get frustrating watching them win now and then out of pure stupidity, lol

That is true. I shouldn't have referred to newbs, what I mean is people that have played enough to know the basics and win a couple big hands. Then they become convinced of their own superiority and play way too loosely and aggressively. Sure this type of player is annoying because they shock you with a good hand every now and then but usually their stack is gone in a flash.

I have a friend who goes apeshit over an ace. Hahaha. He could have an Ace/Six unsuited and he starts betting like crazy! Hahaha. You always know when he has an ace and only one time did he have a pair, a pair also came out on the table so he won, but that only helped us because it made him love the ace even more! Hahaha.

What kind of game do you guys play?

I'm usually pretty quiet until a few players have been knocked out. Until then, i just limp into pots if people let me, and if i get a hand i don't hang about, i just try and win whatever is there because we've all been out drawn before. Once there's about three players left i usually start to play a bit more agressivly, making people pay to see flops and so on. I'm not a good bluffer though, its the part of my game i need to work on the most.
