Same for me.. a friend lent me Wishmaster, I listened to it about 7 times over a couple of days and was hooked. Dawn of Victory was close behind (still like that one).. actually if I was trying to 'hook' someone on metal I would probably even play them Wishmaster.. or more likely Katatonia.

I hope rhapsody NEVER change too much! I enjoy their music just the way it is! But however.... that crappy talking they do all time with that slight lisp... It's just annoying! Many of my favourite songs are from Rhapsody. And I just loooove them lyrics :D I've bought all the albums so far, and I love them all very much!

They had me going until I laid eyes on the 'halloween mask with hair plugs' they call a mascot.. the kind of stuff you want delivered to you in a brown paper bag.

With the words "Not a Halloween Mask with Hair Plugs" written all over it

As for Rhapsody, they're very hit-miss for me. Ignoring the "cheese" aspect (can anyone take those outfits seriously?), when they're on, they're really on ("Warrior of Ice", "Eternal Glory" and "Holy Thunderforce"), but when they suck, they suck hard (most all of Rain of a Thousand Flames)

Actually, now I can't think of them without thinking about how "Triumph of my Mighty Steel" became a lewd inside joke among myself and my metalhead friends

Rhapsody has always been a sort of guilty pleasure, same goes with this CD. There are some truly amazing passages and sounds that could easilly make this a 100/100 album, but then suddenly some cartoonish demon starts growling and Fabio whines like there's no tomorrow, the album quickly drops points.

They need to get a new singer, and someone to write intelligent lyrics for them, once that happens I'll worship the ground they stand of (whenever standing).

When I first read this review, I thought the reviewer must be smoking crack....

I mean, how the hell can Rhapsody (my favourite band, BTW) churn out an album that gets a 69/100?

After several listen-throughs, I hate to admit that I agree with the reviewer. The album lacks "punch" and it seems that the "power" has gone out of their metal. I just don't get the same rush I get when listening to their older albums when I'm listening to this album.

And the narration has become even more ridiculous this time around. Unholy Warcry is completely ruined by Christopher Lee's narration midway through the song. And WTF is up with the demon voice in the opening of Erian's Mystical Rhymes?

Finally got my own copy of the album, and boy does it kick ass :D Except from one aspect... A tendency that could be heard on a few tracks on earlier albums; less melodious and harmonic choruses! Instead they try to make it disharmonic by transporting new lines a couple of notes down... sigh... So they've made a killer album with excellent verses, intros and solos, but there's no singalong choruses... But if they continue the good work and add some killer choruses too it will be awesome! Good work Rhapsody! But in some ways you've changed too much ;)

I still don't get why people complain about Rhapsody's lyrics. I mean, there are thousand of metal bands whose lyrics are pure shit. Yes, Rhapsody's lyrics are pretty simple (not too much symbolism there) and yes, adjectives aren't used very sparingly, but I think their lyrics reflect the bands music and create a unique atmosphere that cannot be found from many metal CDs today.

I never see people complain about death/black metal lyrics. Just read a couple of dm/bm lyrics and they are incredible childish. I'm not saying all black/death metal bands have stupid or bad lyrics but many do have and still I don't see people calling them cheesy or something like that. If Rhapsody wrote about worshipping darkness and ripping fetuses out women's cunts, would their lyrics be better? Or if they sang about politics, the meaning of the life or about the supremacy of white race?

But back to the new album..I rarely see albums that are so perfectly produced as SOEL 2. They could have made the cheap solution and use keyboards instead of orchestra, dismiss the real choir and so on. In my opinion, the "power" is still there, but in different form. There are less double-bass drums and less distorted guitars but powerful choirs and orchestra give big punch to SOEL2.

I agree with you. I can't understand why Rhapsody or Manowar lyrics are "cheesy". I find them deathly cool! I always sing on the top of my loungs when they play. The lyrics are one of the points that make them so strong!

Back into the fire I will have my sword! You won one fight, but not the total war!

Luca's first solo effort " King of the nordic twilight" is still better than all of Rhapsody's.

King of the nordic twilight is outstanding album but to my ears SOEL 2 and PotD sound even better. King of the Nordic Twilight was actually the first Turilli/Rhapsody release I bought and I still like the album a lot. I have listened to it hundreds of times but especially the title track still manages to offer something new on each listening.

I can't say that Prophet of the Last Eclipse was a disappointment but it has't been in my cd player for a while. Maybe space theme and Turilli's music aren't the best combination even though Prophet's unique atmosphere has its moments (New Century's Tarantella is one of best Turilli songs).

I like Prophet of the Last Eclipse better than King of the Nordic Twilight so far. More killers. And of course it helps when Matos ends off the cd as a nice change from Hayer.

I just got this, and I think it's awesome.

90/100 for me.
