Is this a good album to start with them?

^ No, Trapped! is the obvious choice.

Yes, without the "11111"s, but anyway. Just check the first years' reviews

The situation here is pretty clear: no matter how much I respect Danny (he's the one who started this site with his brother, and I read them since then BTW) you can't put a 60/100 in an album just because "it's too technical for your taste"...

As much as I like this album, I feel it's a bit overproduced. I don't believe anyone mention this before. Anyone feel the same?

I don't

I particulary appreciate the over produced opening suite... it kicks so much ass I pity the next bands to try something alike (Blind Guardian  Rage pwns you ! )

after two spins, this gets an 85/100 8)

While I was a little suprised with the orchestral stuff after Soundchaser's riff fest I actually loved the stuff.
Its not Dream Theater and is pretty accessible. Anyway. Have only listened to the album twice. First impressions, another great Rage album. 85/100. Soundchaser 95/100 though.

I just don't get the whole negative vibe about the instrumentals. Their great.

Even if I don't agree with your score, I agree that as far as overproduced albums Rage owns Blind Guardian. I just hope they doesn't continue along that path as well.

I skip the orchestral instrumentals, everything else is awesome.

actually I love those ! 8)

actually, I'd give the album 2 separate rates :
Suite Linga Mortis gets a fair 95/100
the rest I give it a 75/100

It's how much I expect their next album'll be a full concept album with orchestra... that'd be awesome !!! Image

I liked this; man some people can't deal with change! Once again the comments section proves to be an essential balance.

I've never listened to Rage before, but this one is pretty varied, I hear everything from nightwish to van halen to mgm. I agree that the instrumental parts are nice.

"Unity" and "Soundchaser" are both equally great IMO. The former with more awesome songs while the latter being more consistent. I'm definetely getting "Carved In Stone" but I don't know about this one. Haven't heard anything off it. We'll see...

Edit: Damn, by the look of what you all have written, this is for sure on my buy-list. Still, I don't think I would really like Rage going far away from the bare-to-the-bones Heavy Metal they do so good.

I disagree. If a reviewer feels that is what drags an album down, of course he can put a quote reflecting just that.

I'm a big Rage fan, but i found the songs after the orchestral part too aggressive, too similar, too heavy. The songs have nearly all the same scheme.
