well, you have to understand that to type something as simple as "hello" in a mobile phone you have to press the buttons... let me see... 13 times.

KAYLA!!!

I see what kayla means but this phrase has under gone a change in meaning in recent times. What Kalyla is refering to is from the Latin petitio principii, which means assuming your conclusion in the course of your argument. However, its is now universally used (except by pedants) in the same way as 'raises the question'. So we're both right in our own ways.

*foams at the mouth*
No, that usage is not recognized by any official lexicon of the English language. It's the difference between aluminum, which has its very own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary, and Massatuchetts or whatever the hell mispronunciation Ken's been talking about. One is recognized as a legitimate variation, the other is simple stupidity.

I'm sorry but your being pedantic. This is an example of the constant evolution of the English languge, it may officially be the way you described but no one uses the phrase in that way anymore (except in philoshphy i am led to believe). It has changed meaning, but i won't argue with you, your taking a degree in English! My poor musicians brian is nothing comaired with that! This is a thread i found that has already had this arguement an another site, http://www.languagehat.com/archives/002237, a lot of these people have the same view as i do.

stuartn15ted - I don't care if I'm being pedantic, I'm right.

Misha - Wait....what? You now seem to be trying to prove me wrong by using the same arguments I'm using to prove myself right. Both "aluminum" and "color" are in the OED; I'm not relying on popular opinion at all. You've now helped prove both my point about "aluminum" and "begs the question."

I say OMG sometimes. Never in a serious manner at all. Usually I do it when I say "lol, internet" or something.

Are you seriously thinking I'm really trying to have a discussion with you? With arguments and stuff...

Given that your last post involved the use of the word "COLOUOUOUOUOUOUR," no, not really. Even facetious discussions deserve to make sense, though. Of course, I also got less than four hours of sleep last night, so I'm not really running at full capacity today.

Hey Americans, it is spelled "cheque" not "check". Is that really so hard? Also when the apostraphe in "it's" is used incorrectly. "It's" is a contraction of "it is". That is the only time you use an apostraphe in that circumstance. "It's a fine day" is correct. "I saw an elephant shit through it's trunk" is incorrect.

Man, I heard a weird one today: automagically. A lady I work with said it TWICE! I was like, "Did you just...uh...did you say automagically??" and she says, "Yeah, that's how we say it." I was like "We who?" and she says, "My whole family!"

What the fuck? Hahahaha. Who says automagically?? Hahaha! Please tell me this is an isolated incident?

I actually say that, but in Swedish. We mainly use it to describe how some things start working without us knowing why, as if by magic, :)

Spelling pedantery should be awarded medical recognition.
(I wonder how many mistakes are in this sentence...)

Now for something completely different:

Do you think it is appropriate to regard genres as proper nouns and write them with capitals? This could avoid confusion, e.g. Progressive Rock (a genre that is well-defined and therefore is not progressive) vs. progressive (= ground-breaking) Rock, or Melodic Death Metal (Gothenborg style and stuff) vs. melodic Death Metal (well, Death Metal with a melodic edge).
