From what I've heard, this is far from what this artist has already achieved. The best part about Xasthur on TWTD was the dreamy nature of the songs. I loved that aspect, and am not pleased with the outcome of the songs due to this album's production. You were right, but I'd prolly give it a lower score.

Yes, you are right with your score - ~75. I never appreciated five-releases-in-a-year thing. One release per year is a minimum, imo. And here we have the proof. TVTO won't appear in my playlist regulary that's for sure...

But I don't think Malefic needs my advice or/and my support... I just fear we won't hear another AGTBM or something as worthy from him...

Yeah, this album is quite dull when compared to his other works. It's not bad I mean, but this doesnt take you to another realm like NP or AGTBM do...

It is a good album. Not Malefic's best and some (take me for instance 8) ) will find TWTD better, but that's a personal opinion. Nevertheless, this album is worth listening. No fresh ideas - yes, but that ain't a copycat too...

It's funny, I don't remember where, but I read somewhere that Telepathic With The Deceased would be a good CD to get into Xasthur, but far from Malefic's best work... Telepathic With The Deceased is my first CD of Xasthur's & I've been listening to it non-stop for about 3 weeks now(with no end in sight.) As soon as I get the funds I definitely plan to get his earlier releases... I recently ordered To Violate The Oblivious, but it hasn't arrived yet :( . I can't wait to hear it! Anyways... Great review Daniel, keep up the great work! You've got no complaints from me

Get A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors or you'll live with the spirit of regret.

I haven't heard this one yet, though I will check it out... if it's Xasthur it can't be all bad!
TWTD is actually quite good, though not his best, etc etc...
Hails Daniel!

AGTBM is a masterpiece, and would be very hard to top.

And Xasthur not at it's best still kicks the ass of 95% of all current black metal.

I've only heard TWTD, and that was good, so hopefully I can give this one a listen some time..

But Darkthrone managed to top first ABITNS with UAFM and then UAFM with TH  (not to mention Burzum with a whole backcatalogue of masterpieces)

So I'm not expecting least from Malefic

I like this.. Track 4 is fukin classic.

I previewed this at HMV and to be honest it sounded very unique, probably because I have not heard anything similiar before. Music that sounds like a black and white picture of a mausoleum.

So what is their best material? My curiosity is piqued.

I know shit about this band but most people on the forum seems to think that A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors is their best.

Xasthur sounds unique by default... A Gate... is a fantastic album indeed, but pretty much every Xasthur releases is worth hearing. The ones I'm least keen on are Telepathic With The Deceased and the split with Angra Mainyu, but those are still great. The split with Acid Enema (pretty mediocre band) also isn't a good place to start, though it has one of the best Xasthur songs ever IMO (Doomed by Howling Winds).

I agree with the above post...they are all worth owning...they all take you on trip to the darker parts of your mind. When the Xasthur/Leviathan split is released on CD it will be a must buy, the LP was incredibly good.

The tracks I've heard off this are some of the best Xasthur I've heard. On another note does the title give anyone else the image of Malefic teabagging someone while they're sleeping?
