This album is amazing, I friggin love it. I find it hard to sit through the last song though. Heavy, catchy, groovy, this album is seriously ass kicking awesome shit. My favourite album of Cathedral.

I only own The VIIth Coming and that was an accidental buy. For some reason when I picked it up it was in the Candlemass section. I thought it was a new Candlemass album. I'm not sure why I thought that as they're one of my favorite and I'd like to think I would have known they had a new album out, but alas, my excitement made me read Candlemass when it said Cathedral. Very odd. I know.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I popped the CD in. I thought Candlemass was done for good. Haha. I hated the CD. Reckon I should give it another chance?

Hell, yes. Lee D's a god in the Doom world.

And what was that about the band breaking up after this? I didn't know that!

This album was a very nice surprise. Cathedral managed to successfully incorporate new (even *shudder* "MODERN"!!!) elements in their sound without losing a bit of edge. Great job, boys.

I guess this album is pretty good although parts of it annoy me a good bit. I preferred Endtyme.

Man, Endtyme is an awesome album. Maybe my favourite Doom record. I don't think I'll get this- I already have a couple more Cathedral albums at home that don't get listened to much because I keep going back to that one all the time.

I only have The Ethereal Mirror from these guys, which is actually an agreeable album, but there is just so many records I would rather play. Hence it doesn't get much playing time. I'll check this one out if I come across it but as with the Cathedral album I have it will probably not be my first choice. Maybe I just got off at the wrong foot with this band.

I like Cathedral a lot more when they allow everything to just sloooow right down so it almost sounds like it's grinding to a halt. I find they can sound slightly average when they are just using mid tempo blues riffs, but at their best they can create something incredibly dark and heavy, but also catchy.

Is this to be found on Endtyme?

Yes indeed it is. Hmm, I think I can upload it tonight if you wish?

That sounds nice.. If you don't find the time tonight it's no problem. I don't think I'll be sitting by a computer anymore today. I'll buy it if I like it, so you can relieve yourself of any gulit you may feel in the process.

If I can upload you something in return do tell.

After more listens, I just had to come back to this thread, as I feel I hadn't praised this album as much as it deserves.

Everything just works so astoundigly well, from the production to the songwriting, from the soft-and-stronger mood to Lee's (much improved) very personal vocals. There is no real throwaway song on here, and for a 72 odd minutes album, that's really saying something.

The quasi-title track The Garden is so shamelessly amazing... not to mention it features one of my most beloved recursive structures: the great opening theme (in this case, an almost psychedelic quiet moment with delicate female vocals) which reappears at the end of the long journey.

Simply amazing, and truly their best work in years. Even those who didn't feel much appeal in Cathedral earlier on would do themselves a favour by checking this out.

100% agreed. One of the very, very few 2005 Metal albums (of those which I know) that doesn't sound like it has been heard a 1000 times before.
