Their previous album was a lot better. Quite a letdown this is. Pitch Black Progress does not share the same energy and sounds too much like everything else.

Even though I hate melodeath, I was forced to get me a piece of Scar Symmetry after seeing the rave reviews from all over the net for Symmetric in Design. I liked that album a lot. SS are probably the second band worth listening in this genre with Dark Tranquillity. I'll get this one as well, the review convinced me.

Good Review Kayla. I actually liked this album quite a lot 93/100. The song writing is just so top notch and professional with so many good songs front to back. The first 3 songs really set the tone. I agree with the Soilwork NBC comparison too.

Also the emphasis on the solo's is great to hear. These guys can shred and don't hold back the reigns like Soilwork and In Flames have recently.

I also agree that Kaleidoscopic God is a killer track as well. However I think Dreaming 24/7 is a great track and Retaliator was one of the only weak points for me.

Should be in my top 5 for 2006..........

The first one was good. At first I thought this was simply "more of the same". I still think so, but that doesn't stop me from liking it. It's more focused in terms of songwritting. 75/100 from me.

These guys must be like the people who write songs for the backstreet boys and britney spears, but writing death metal instead. I think the best description I've heard of them was "like later Soilwork, but not shitty"

i dunno abt you guys but i think Scar Sym covered most genre in this album with the exception of Black Metal... hell, you have Progressive, Death and a bit of Thrash sumwat in the album...

And i have to agree with the comparison to Swano's vocals. Alvestam is ALMOST up there.. Can't stop playing this album.. the songs are all solid!

This is definitely one of my favorites this year! I listen to it all the time while I'm at the computer. The comparison to Dark Tranquillity and later Soilwork is fair. Scar Symmetry I think is better than both. Of course that's just this humble metalheads opinion.

If you don't have a copy.....you should get one soon!!
