Carnifex ("executioner" in Latin; it literally means "meat-maker")

actually*enters Latin student mode* it means butcher or as you said 'meat-maker'. executioner is a more free translation, and would not be excepted in an exam.

No, it means executioner, as I learned many a year ago in Latin class.

actually no, because i often have to use a latin dictionary for translations and according to the Libra Latin Dictionary, carnifex is butcher. and i think a real dictionary, specialised on latin would know, don't you think? still i won't give a fuck, because i used executioner as well in the text about enemies of Rome.

According to the Cambridge Latin Course Year Three textbook as well as the real Latin-to-English dictionary I have, it's executioner. I can't tell you which dictionary I have, though, as it's currently 400 miles away in storage.

Schlepping is a pretty cool word. Pity it is used so rarely. Same goes for gonad and oblivion .

Tarmslyng also has a nice ring to it..
