Holy crap. I just cut and pasted the story into a Word document (gotta make sure it's saved for posterity) and it's 26 pages long. Not too shabby, Zad.

Well in the begining there was some princess trying to escape the clutches of an evil empire, and then a young man from the desert becomes an unlikely hero after discovering a mysterious power within himself. Then these sand raider things showed up out of nowhere and started blowing shit up......

wait no...

I can't remember either.

Rio had looked high and low, but there was no trace of Bastard to be found. He resigned himself to the thought that it was indeed he that had attacked him, and decided to concentrate on getting him and Radagast to the Tower. Which looked as if it was going to be quite a challenge; after being away from home for so long Radagast was obviously enjoying being back and having a fuss made of him. He watched as Radagast took part in an arm-wrestling tournament, not doing very well, but having fun at it. It was clear that he slotted back in easily, and that his time away could never have happened. Feeling a presence at his side, he turned and saw the old woman they called Bubbe watching him with a peculiar twinkle in her old eyes.

He was about to speak, but to his astonishment he heard her voice in his head, even though she wasn’t speaking. “And you thought I was just a foolish old woman, yes?” she said. Rio opened his mouth to reply, but couldn’t speak, so astonished was he. “You want to take him away from us again, yes?” He nodded, silently. She turned to watch Radagast. “Look after him,” she said eventually, and then left.

Rio watched her go, and turned to see that Radagast was watching. He nodded slowly, and then got up. Their quest had to continue…

*

Events in the Tower were gathering momentum. Kathaarian had been quick to suppress any rebellion by setting the Inquisition up as quickly as possible. Already, Agents were being sent out to other towns and cities on check that the people were being True, and the dungeons were being refurbished in preparation for the Untrue sinners. The Tower itself was a far picture of what it once was, all colour and happiness having been sucked out to make way for darkness and depression.

It surprised Iyzor that Queen Vikie stayed despite this. Kathaarian was as rude to her as he could be without actually starting a war between the two nations, and she spent more time avoiding him and talking to Iyzor. The shock of it all had quietened her somewhat, and he found her much less annoying than previously.

He plotted, and waited for his moment. At some point Kathaarian would have to leave the Tower, and then he would sneak Vikie into the Princess’s Chambers, and they could restore her to her rightful position. He had Noodles the Guard act as his eyes and ears, and the reports that he bought back were grim indeed. He was glad to have an ally in these harsh times.

To be continued...

Personally I think Brahm's character should be in some way connected to his avatar. :)

From now on, the story will be in normal text, like below, and my comments will be in another colour, like orange or something.

Rio and Radagast had finished packing their things, and the latter was just about to kiss his mother goodbye, when several small children ran into the room, babbling incomprehensibly. “What are they saying?” Rio asked him. Radagast listened for a while, nodded, and then smiled at him. “Apparently there are two robots outside,” he said.

They climbed out onto the surface, to find that Dead Machine and the female robot he vanished with were standing outside. “Come on, climb on,” he said to them hurriedly. “The Emperor wants to meet you!” After a quick wave to Radagast’s family, they were off, the robots sprinting at an easy lope yet still managing to travel much faster than humans could. “I be MinTrude, by the way,” the female robot said to Rio, who was riding her. He looked across at Radagast, on top of Dead Machine, and wondered where they were going. “Where are we going?” he asked her. “We be mottling you to robot heaven, baby cakes!” she said, and on a silent command from Dead Machine sped up, until the landscape was flashing past them. “We be approaching the Rockies,” she said, “beneath who lays the Robot Palace for the coldy season. We be having to move to warmer bits, else our parts be froze up and then we falls down.”

On and on and on anon they rode for days, neither mount getting tired or slowing their pace, racing onwards eagerly. Rio must have fallen asleep because looking up; he saw that they were in a valley, surrounded by cliffs of Rock. He glanced across at Radagast, and saw that he was grinning; high on the sheer rush that one gets from riding a robot through the land. Suddenly, MinTrude stopped, nearly throwing him off. “We be here now,” she announced, and turning to a blank wall, made a funny bleeping noise. A loud grinding noise came from the wall, and it slowly slid apart. An entrance was revealed.

They went inside.

Inside, it was dark, but from some lights on the walls, Rio could see a tunnel that stretched around a corner. Following it around, they came into a huge palace. Robot Guards lined the walls; walking between them, Rio and Radagast found themselves face-to-face with a huge gnarled robot speckled with rust. “Who goes there?” he thundered. “Relax and rest, O Blind Guardian of the palace,” soothed MinTrude. “It be I with visitors for the Emperor!” The old robot wearily shuffled aside, and they passed through a large Rock door.

The first thing Rio saw upon entering the room was a humanoid robot, with angel’s wings spreading from his shoulders. “I am Brahm_K, the Emperor!” he said in a stern voice. Tinny synth music began playing from a small box by his foot, and he kicked it angrily. “You’re probably wondering why I summoned you here,” continued Brahm_K. “We are all in great danger. Winter is coming!” Radagast felt sick, and Rio’s insides lurched. “The Tower will not survive the oncoming terror,” continued Brahm_K. “You must go and see the man who built it, he alone knows how it can be fortified to withstand Winter and save the Princess’ life!”

Rio and Radagast and Dead Machine and MinTrude went to see this man. His name was Stubb, he was an old hermit who was afraid of robots, so Dead Machine and his friend had to wait out of view.

To be continued…

I wrote this slightly drunk last night, and couldn't be bothered rewriting it. It has its own charm, I think. I had to cut it off there, it got a lot worse...

First off, a quick apology. I know that the story seems to have been going downhill in quality recently, it’s largely due to the fact that I’m getting bored with it, and can’t be bothered writing it properly. Rather than make a complete shitfest of the whole thing, therefore, this is going to be the last episode of Tales... Yes, I know the story’s not finished, but that’s not really the point here, is it? Not sure I really care... Anyway, enjoy it:

“Wait! Did you hear that?” Radagast said, looking around. “Like… muttering,” Rio said, “yes, I heard it too.” They stepped slightly closer to each other, suddenly uneasy. “It’s strange,” said Rio, “now there’s no noise at all.” Radagast listened, and nodded. “No birds, no planes going overhead, no sound from the Rock.”

They were partway up the slope that led to Stubb’s hideout. According to MinTrude, he had fled from Opeth years ago, after persecution from the Bishop Kathaarian for being Untrue, and after befriending the robots, had betrayed them by stealing. They took pity on him and refrained from stomping on him, allowing him to live a little way away from the palace so he could survive on stolen scraps of food. Apparently, the harsh journey and stress of his persecution had snapped his mind, so they had to be wary of what he said to them, for fear of missing the chance to get the plans.

At the top of the slope, they found a small tent pitched under the shelter of an overhanging tree, which somehow had sprouted from the wall. Radagast coughed loudly, and a small figure suddenly sprang out.

“There’s no time to lose!” he said. “Are those damn robots out of earshot?” “You must be Stubb,” said Rio, exchanging glances with Radagast. Stubb was only about four feet tall, dressed in rags, with long, knotted hair spiralling wildly down to his feet. He shook his head, “no, no, no! You don’t understand! We have to stop him!” “Stop who?” “He wants to kill us all, stop our lives just like that!” Stubb snapped his fingers expressively.

“Whom are you talking about? Winter?” asked Rio. Stubb again shook his head. “No! Compared to him, Winter’s a gnat, a fly. This one is all-powerful! He can snuff out lives with a few words, even the True Gods are afraid of him!” “But, who is he?!” Radagast broke in, exasperated. Stubb shakes his hair out of his eyes, and his eyes gleam at them. “He is The Author,” he says, with a fearful glance upwards.

Eh?

“He knows!” Stubb calls, clearly afraid. “There’s no hiding from his vision!” The other two finally get it. “None of this is real, is it?” Rio says, picking at his clothes, bending down to touch the ground. “I should have guessed!” Radagast said, shaking his head. “What kind of fantasy land has robots and planes anyway?”

Where the hell’s the ‘off’ button on this damn thing…

“Now you have realised, he’s going to try and kill us, before we get to him!” Stubb says, waving his arms. He forces them down at his side, giving a hateful look upwards. “You can see the thread, the lifeline running up?” he continues.

Got it! Take that, you little shits.

Red flooded Rio’s vision. He had never felt such pain, never. It was as if he was aflame, burning like a candle. He fell, silently, although inside he was –

“Nooooo!” Radagast yells, and grabs Rio. “It’s all in your head! Go through it!” Rio sees that the red had an end, so heads towards it…

No…this wasn’t supposed to happen…

…and he comes out of the tunnel. Everything suddenly looks flat and unreal. Even Stubb and Radagast seem more like computer-generated images, standing there, watching him, looking concerned. “I see it,” he whispers, and he sees everything, how The Author had manipulated them all for his entertainment, causing pain and death for his own amusement. He watches it all, from Flingon and Azrael’s deaths to Bishop Kathaarian’s rise to power, from the fates The Author had already chosen for them all. How many more would you have destroyed? he asks silently. How many would be wiped out, because of your greed? And then he espies the thread that Stubb was speaking of. “What the fuck?” he says, quite astonished. “Why is there a picture of a dinosaur with Radagast written above it? And what's that orange writing appearing in the sky?"

My god, they’re escaping!

“Grab it, and heave yourselves up!” Stubb shouts. “We can escape into his mind!”

No! I am still in control! I will not let this happen. The Tales are finished.

The End

Rio smiles. We’re still here, he thinks, reminders of your ultimate uselessness. You can't even control the figures in your own mind! And now, here we come…

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Fuck, the pain.

Where am I? Why is everything black? And what's that?
No...no. It's not true, it's not, it's not! What have they done to me?

Hey there...
:o
Who the... Oh. It's you. :(

I suppose there's not much point in saying how sorry I am?

No, not especially. We've been discussing your fate, and we're going to give you a taste of your own medicine, see how you enjoy being violated like you thoughtlessly did to us. And then, we'll decide your ultimate fate.

And by the way, get rid of those little faces. They're not going to help you...

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Fuck, how was I supposed to know that you were all real? It's not my fault!

It is, though. Don't stamp your foot like that.

Sorry.

You will be. We're off to look around and see what the real Latt'm Land is like. Metal reversed eh, very clever of you. All the sections laid out like that, most ingenious. It's incredible, really, this world. What can we say?

Maybe if you let me come back I could show you around?

You really are pathetic. We'll manage on our own. Hey, that pretty girl just smiled at us! But, looking through your mind, you never did anything about it. Such an obvious come-on, too. You sad fuck, enjoy being held in limbo.

We'll go and give her a good seeing-to, on your behalf.

No, no, no, no, please...

To be continued... Hahahahahahahahahaahahaa!

Yes. In order to continue living and preventing the destruction of the entire world, you will need to make sure he keeps on writing and save him from being run over.

Is anyone there?

Can you hear me?

Hello?

Hello.

You bastards. Let me out!

Now, now. No point in being hasty, is there? Speaking of hastiness, that pretty girl you were ignoring is quite excitable, once you get a glass or two of wine in her. Ooh, put your back right out, she did. Could barely stand you up this morning.

I’m going to kill you. All three of you.

And you should have seen her face when we told her to get out. Ooh, she was angry.

Come on, don’t cry. It can all be put right.

All you have to do is keep writing. Simple as that. Take us on our quest, have us win over the bad guys, and leave us in paradise, then we’ll give you everything back.

If you’re quick with the phone, you might even save a certain relationship with a certain young lady. All depends, of course.

What do I have to do?

First of all, wipe that sneaky look off your face. You really can’t win, so don’t think about trying to outsmart us in any way.

I wasn’t.

Yes, you were. Want us to hurt you again?

No, no, sorry. There, I’ve stopped.

Good. Now, get writing! We’ll take you back in time a little, then you carry on from there…

This is wrong…

Last warning!

This is wrong, thought Rio. Here they were, standing on a mountainside with an insane hermit who was afraid of robots, whatever would come next? He reached out and grabbed Stubb, surprising both himself and Radagast. “Who do you mean?” he asked. Stubb wrenched himself away. “I mean Winter!” he said, turning to look uneasily at the black sky in the near distance behind them. “The Tower will not survive his coming storm!”

“The Emperor said that you know how to fortify it,” Radagast ventured. “It will not be easy,” hissed Stubb. “We will have to gather the three most powerful Wizards of the land, and have them cast Spells of Power to strengthen The Tower. For as I’m sure you know, if The Tower falls then so do we all. Its magic protects us.”

“Who, then, are these three powerful Wizard?” Rio asked. “One is my brother, Ztef’n. He lives in a little hut down by the river. Another is Iyzor, the Wizard of The Tower. The third…” Stubb broke off and looked up, startled by something. He was just in time to see a spear come hurdling towards him, before it struck through the centre of his chest. Looking up in shock, Radagast saw what appeared to be a Knight, high up on a giant flying eagle. He laughed nastily before flying off, at Amazing Speeds.

Rio cradled the dying hermit in his arms. “Quick, tell us, who is the third Wizard?” he implored – but it was not to be! After one final retch, spitting blood everywhere, Stubb died, taking his secret to the grave.

“Now our quest is even more vital,” said Radagast. “We must get to Iyzor, and tell him everything.” Rio looked back, the way they had come. “I wonder where Bastard is,” he murmured. “We can’t trust him, not after him vanishing like that!” Radagast said. "We'll just have to leave him; he did try and kill you, after all!"

All of a sudden, Dead Machine and MinTrude came stomping up the slope. “What happened?” Machine asked, scanning Stubb’s impaled corpse lying on the ground. “You be murderers!” cried MinTrude.

“No,no!” cried Radagast. “Someone on a giant flying eagle did it, and then flew off!” “LIARS!” screeched MinTrude. She extended her guns, and would have shot Radagast and Rio in cold blood, if Dead Machine hadn’t have caught her with a stun-bolt, sending her crashing into Stubb's tent, unconsious. “Now they will be after me,” he said wearily. “It is forbidden here to attack another robot for whatever purpose. We must hurry, quick, climb on me, and we’ll head off.”

They obeyed, and the three of them set off once again, headed towards The Tower once again. Would they ever reach it, or was their quest destined to be a failure?

Now fulfil your part of the bargain, you bastards.

Hang on, now. We never told you to kill off Stubb. Think you deserve a bit longer in there, anyway.

To be continued…
