I managed to catch the remake of the 1976 classic a few days ago, on the 6th of June 2006 to be exact. The world's unholiest day my ass.

Frankly, it's a huge fucking disappointment to me. No where near the original. I'm not actually good at actors except for the big guns, so this movie wasn't my favourite because the casting sucked badly. And trust me, Julia Stiles MUST be banned from playing any motherly roles.

They tried to improvise the plot by making the movie based in the year 2000-something. But it doesn't impress me. And Buganhagen looks like a drunkard who's partially high on heroine. Where have all the good actors gone?

And the biggest disappointment was the score. HORRIBLE!!! Ave Satani only made a cameo at the ending credits. An insult to Jerry Goldsmith. I felt the whole Omen thingy came alive with his musical talent. It made the movie extra creepier.

ANd Mrs. Baylock sucked. I was waiting for her to quote the famous words the old Baylock said to Damien (on her first meeting with Damien). I forgot the exact words though. Plus the dogs looked paraiah.

Fuck it. I'm never gonna watch remakes anymore.

the red robbed guy with a mask is supposed to be damiens mother, i beleive that mask is a jackal skull.

that thing in the end with the president being the newly adopted father of damien really bothered me.

What opissed me off most though about this remake occured in the first 5 minutes, when i sqw a preview for yet another texas chainsaw movie. I wish someone would just write a new story

leee, if you want to go round calling people here noobs, you should stop being one yourself. Seriously, these statements you made are those of a mind that is either noobish, or just deranged.

+1!!!

Yeah, the guy in the robe is suppose to depict Damien's mother. What a lame attempt to scare the audience.

And another thing...Damien doesn't look scary. He doesn't even strike fear in anybody. And the last part, at his folk's funeral, where he turns and smiles (supposedly a sinister smile). It was awful. The original Damiens was creepier. Does anybody know that kid's name. And what happend to him after the movie? I don't remember seeing him in any other movie.

I like them better then the old ones. Sue me. I have seen both I can make an opinion based on that. The old Hills have Eyes is ok, the old Dawn of the Dead I honestly don't like at all. Of course nothing can ever touch the original TCM but the new one is fun too.

So I see how it is, we have to be open minded for liking gay Metal bands but for Horror is cool to be close minded? lol

To be fair, I am a totally different person to those people with which you were arguing about gay metal, so I don't think your last question really applies.

Sorry, man. There's no way around it. People that prefer DotD04 to the original are horror noobs-it's just a simple fact. It's not a question of having seen both, it's a question of having noobish taste in films.

its better in some aspects but the mall has too many people in it and it kinda defeats the whole vibe of the movie. It goes more for the straight ahead " zombies ripping people apart" theme than the orignals irony of the whole mall thing and the interactiopn of people. Still a good film though

See there. I am not a horror noob, i just know what I like. Actually I prefer explotation and sick shit too most horror and most US shit sucks anyways. I like Japanese stuff and Hong Kong Cat III movies. Especially shit like Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome, Red to Kill, Chinese Torture Chamber and other shit.

All Night Long Trilogy from Japan is my idea of perfect horror.

Of course all the Ju-on movies, Ringu and Audtion own too.

I like shit like Cabin Fever, House of 1K corspes and other stuff like that. I think brainic horror like Suspira sucks.....

"Brainiac horror"? Suspiria is hardly a complex film... On the other hand I would definitely call Audition horror for nerds. A good film, but for nerds nonetheless. I was a big fan of surrealist Asian horror for a while but then I got sidetracked by all the Italian stuff, and decided I much prefered Argento to those guys. Also, I'd much rather watch very sleazy Fulci/Lenzi/Bianchi stuff than most modern day Asian directors. The Asians are infinitely more skilled at their art, but at the same time have a lot of pretensions, which mean the Italian films of the 80s have much better atmosphere.

I do like some exploitation, but on the whole I prefer to keep porn and horror seperate.

I haven't seen it, but the trailers didn't give me a reason to eitier. It looks really cheesy. I let you know in a month or two when it hits the Dollar movies here. I'll sit through a lot of shit if it's only a dollar.

Audition is complex, it just helps to have spent time around Japanese a lot so you get some of the things in the film easier, like with Suicide Club and Cure two of my other faves.

Argento just bores me to tears, actually I wish it didn't (His cinematogropy and soundtracks are great), that and the horrible dubs just drive me crazy. I will admit I didn't check out much of his shit until the last 3 or 4 years so I might have missed the boat on it. Same goes for shit like "A blade in the dark" etc. Did you see "The Card Player" that was horrible man.

I like stuff simple, viscreal and with a punch. I love High Tension and both Saws which get shit on too.

I grew up on Halloween and horror like that so maybe that is why I like it so simple?

I really don't like the Ju-on type of horror. Korean/Japanese horror seems so stereotype. The ideas are pretty shallow, only the plot and characters differ. Totally unentertaining.

Maybe because you are from Malaysia so is not different to you like is to me? I love Japanese horror and if you look hard there is a lot of good stuff, a lot of it is sterotypical after the succes of Ringu, The Eye and The Phone.

Where in Malaysia? I go there a lot, Melaka and Kuching, cool country. I dig it.
