Makes all the haters appreciate Lennox Lewis huh? Shit Heavyweights are pretty dead, and doesn't look like anything will wake them up.
I'll tell you what would wake them up, a fight like Tarver and Hopkins just had. I won't spoil it for you, but it was a pretty entertaining match. Catch a replay if you can find it.
I read round by round on line. Sounds like Milk Dud got his ass whipped by the old man, big time. I wish he would have KTOF Tarver but a whipping is even worse. Go Bernard. Jez how far down the toilet was/is Roy Jones after Hopkins just owned Tarver?
Hopkins beat Tarver silly! Knocked him down in round 5, too. Hopkins could have KO'd him, but you know how Hopkins rolls, always cautious.
Here's what I posted on the BI forum:
Quote:
Tarver is NOT a good fighter. He chased Jones his entire career, did the homework it would take to beat Jones—like a fighter should do against EVERY fighter, not just one. He did well in the first fight with Jones because he was helped by Jones' weight loss and he landed a brilliant punch in the second fight, and there it is: the one punch wonder. That sustained him through the third fight, too, but again, no "magic."
Regardless of how much skill and precision it took to land that punch against Jones, it was a lucky punch. Why? Because he's not a good fighter and he's had people fooled since because of that punch and other circumstances that have nothing to do with his skill. He fooled people, he talked a lot of trash and somehow convinced people that he was destined to be a legend, but the fact remains that he is not a good fighter. He COULD be a great fighter if he consistently showed the passion and dedication he showed with his career-stalking of Roy Jones Jr., but in the end he just does not have what it takes to be a great. His inability to take out Jones in the first and third fight was proof enough, his first loss to Johnson was further proof and this schooling by way of Hopkins is sweet, delicious icing. Hopkins was JACKED, Tarver was flabby. No dedication. He was dedicated to one thing in his "legendary" career: beating Jones. That's it. He thought Jones was his meal ticket—and for a while it was—but outside of those fights with Jones, Tarver has consistently proven that he is a B-Level fighter; the only "magic" he's ever possessed he expended in one brilliantly place left hook. ONE TIME.
He gets credit for "flapping his lips" and making it entertaining (especially before round 1 in the second fight with Jones), for riding that wave to Hollywood and selling Stallone some real estate on his nutsac, but Tarver is a joke and you fags need to realize this. If Hopkins wasn't so goddamn cautious he would have KO'd Tarver last night. I said he would do it, no one believed me, but you all saw that it COULD have happened. Damn you, Hopkins! Damn you to hell.
Fuck Tarver. I hope he retires and drifts away like Larry Merchant's sobriety.
It isn't wether Tarver is good or not he just wasted too much time in the Ameatures and was old by the time he got to the Pros. Lucky punch my ass, Tarver learned lessons against Harding and came back and beat him, did the same to Roy and you know the 1st fight could have gone either way. There is no lucky punch, especailly not that one.
Ruiz is garbage and got gifts himself, the Valuve thing was a shit fest and Ruiz didn't convincingly beat him. Shit, Ruiz, the man to lose the Heavyweight title twice to ex middle weights.....good riddance.
