And Nightwish do not play Gothic Metal, they play female fronted Symphonic Heavy Metal (or Symphonic Power Metal to some on here).

Agreed. I've never thought Nightwish were gothic at all.

Noise can be music to some. Anything can be music. Writing good songs is the hard part. Thought Lacuna have strayed, they have still written a collection of good songs, for what they are.

As for her influences, she doesn't write the music at all so her liking Linkin Park (great band, by the way) or dating Root from Slipknot/Stone Sour is of no consequence.

I think she ends up having some influence in the songwriting, I don't believe she just sings the stuff, like a session musician, without adding anything, I always noticed over the last years a will from LC to join the commercial american rock/metal scene, there is no way on denying that.

Go work at Burger King for a year and then at the end of that year tell me you're content with being the fry guy. Of course musicians want to break into the commercial scene! They want to make a living, no? If they don't compromise their integrity there's nothing wrong with that.

you're right abbout them wanting/succeeding to break into the American mainstream. But who Christina is dating has nothing to do with that whatsoever. She writes lyrics, that's it. And considering her lyrics are introspective to begin with, her listening to Linkin Park is also a moot point.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, I'm just stating a fact... keep that in mind.
It's the american way

Good idea, indeed, but pffft at the notion that either band ever sounded alike. They didn't. Ever.

No but if you like emotional and heavy (yes both of those fucking albums are heavy) female fronted rock/Metal it doesn't get much better then that.

What irks me is that LC got succeful off of the sound of Comalies and Unleashed Memories (and Evanesence) and then just made a shit album.

This total matches what Paradise Lost did with Host and BIN and then lost all of their fans and had to suck it up and make good albums again. They never got onto Ozzfest and had 14 year olds into their shit though so maybe there is NO HOPE LC can come back from this shit album....

The Gathering are fucking amazing. You're preaching to the choir there, dude. I love their new shit, too. And yeah, Evanescence opened the door for Lacuna, Nightwish and even Within Temptation, I think. They seem to be the three that somehow took off in the US, Within Temptation to a lesser extent.

I don't know if Lacuna consciously made an album like this to target an specific audience or not. Musicicans are influenced by what's in their life, you know? If they were on Ozzfest and US tours they were subjected to all that US mainstream shit. It's bound to seep in somehow. Their current fame won't last, though. Unless they go bubble gum pop or something...

The new thegathering is the first bad one they've done since Anneke joined, unfortunately. It pretty much sucks.

Karmacode is OK, I guess. I like it.

Personally, I thought the review was fair to the album. But you should've just come out and said it like this, "Without Christina, this album sounds like LC wanted to be Korn with a better singer."

I dunno why I bought this album, maybe because it was cheap? But every listen makes me think of nu-metal. Very strange some people who'd rip Korn, Disturbed, and whatever other garbage out there somehow think it's palatable when there is a female singer associated with the band. It must be like when a guy has prison sex with another guy -- he's not actually gay, he's just doing something gay... not that there's anything wrong with that. Some people might disagree, but whatever...

I think a better analogy would be getting your girlfriend to fuck you up the ass with a strap-on and not thinking it makes you gay.

Pffft! No way. What don't you like about it? It's not as heavy as If_Then_Else or Souvenirs, but it's still a great album.

You need to listen to more nu-metal if you think this sounds like nu-metal.

Souveniers isn't Heavy? wtf? Anyways I agree it is good. Do you have the Memoirs album Ken, you need it if you don't and you like Souveniers
