No, you're just tricking yourself to believe that because of your distaste for Darkthrone

Seriously though. I think Taake has as much to do with Darkthrone as any other contemporary band and often more. Generally Taake has more stylistic similarities with Darkthrone than Ulver f.ex. It is always hard to argue Darkthrone with you as we don't hear the same thing when we listen to Darkthrone.

..Actually I haven't heard the most recent SW album (it came out after I had dropped SW) so I don't know. My last SW experience was Opferblut which was just a poor Transilvanian Hunger ripoff as far as I'm concerned.

Excited about the Nachtmystium newbie, 'specially after reading Daniel's review.

Oh, and I agree with Misha. Taake is all Ulver. No Darkthrone anywhere. That's my opinion. LOL, I love how MESHED some blackmetal genres become in some people's eyes. It throws you off.

Agreed. Taake isn't a clone band. If a band is just a blatant rip-off usually I don't bother either. That's why I consider Satanic Warmaster (for example) unworhty of my time. If I want what he has to offer I'll just listen to Darkthrone who have done the same and much more accomplished.

This Bekhira doesnt sound like Darkthrone at all to me! Im sensing some Ulver and Satyricon as well, and the vocals are actually quite unique.

I guess i hate bands that rip off ONE band too much. Incorporating a bunch of influences along with some quality tunes doesnt bother me at all.

I never meant to give you the impression that they were particularly Darkthroneish. But they are minimalist raw BM and not boring by any means (don't you agree?), which was what I was trying to convey.

Taake is like an extension of the Norwegian bm of the 90s, it combines it all. I hear as much Darkthrone as Ulver, and stuff.

Hoest seems to take that "Norwegian bm rulaz" ideology of Fenriz pretty seriously though.

And Satanic Warmaster does have a lot of Darkthrone in it, they got that punky vibe, but I wouldn't call them a clone. Even if they are, they rule at it.

well... i don't think they have all that much Darkthrone in them. Just because bands has something in commen doesn't mean they have stolen from each other, besides there's several other old bands with punky vibes. I'm sure SW is more influenced by the finish scene

So true. Their melodic approach to riffing seems to be pretty common among Finnish BM, and I still feel they have enough personality... at least I couldn't mistake them for any other band so far.

Yes. I have been rectified. I was too quick to drop SW. I was just so bitter after the puny ripoff called Opferblut that I swore him off.

I'm a bit late, but I have to say that was a nice review. I like this album a lot, but it seems to be getting a lot of people pissy. Well, mostly just idiots on metal-archives...

Anyway, it's nice to see Nachtmystium continuing to work towards something of their own. I enjoy the self-titled ep and Demise, but the "searching for a sound" stage isn't exactly the most rewarding period of a band's career.
