I actually listened to Leviathan on AOL My Music just today.

Okay, here's what I think of the album:

*Some sweet guitar riffs

*Some solid drumming

*Some nicely structured and interesting songs

*A decent (if not spectacular) vocalist

*Some nice bass playing

But:

*HOLY SHIT IS THE PRODUCTION TERRIBLE! The production almost totally ruins an otherwise solid album. I really hope Mastodon remasters this sometime.

The production is fine as far as I can tell... I think they were going for the gooey, sludgy feel.

Remaster it? Nonsense.

Leviathan is hardly an example of how to produce an album, but it's not THAT bad. I hear people complain about the production a lot, but it works well enough with the band's sound. The day Mastodon gets that faggot from KSE to make them sound like every metalcore band ever is the day the production will turn me away.

Though, admittedly, I wouldn't mind a return to something more like Remission. Production-wise, I think it was much better. The mix and the overall sound of everything was just much clearer and more effective.

Yeah, Mastodon is teh awwwesum, despite the "this band is popular, therefore I must hate them" vitriol they receive. That said, NO WAY does Leviathan need a remastering. The production is fine, no complaints from me.

i must be the only guy here that doesn't like Mastodon

the drumming is a complete pwn, and they have their moments, but i don't like most of their music.

i'm not a big fan of the "slow and heavy", not at all..

Yeah. Blood and Thunder, Megalodon, Aqua Dementia, Burning Man...
They have fast stuff too. And they kick ass as much as the slow ones.

Megalodon has a fast riff that kicks ass, indeed.

that's why i said they have their moments.

i can understand why many people like them, but i generally can't listen to slow music (and i realize this is my problem, not the musicians').

This Friday, July 7th everyone will get to hear "Crystal Skull" off our forthcoming album BLOOD MOUNTAIN here. The song features additional vocals from our good friend Scott Kelly of Neurosis. We'll also be launching our new website this week @ www.mastodonrocks.com keep checking for that.
Thanks for all the support.
