After typing all that stuff about this band I decided to make an MP3 CD so I could play in my truck, so I break out all my CDs and I notice that fucking Timo Tolkki mixed and engineered their Privilege Of Evil EP. Weirdness.

Speaking of weird people. Timo Tolkki is one strange duck.

I wasn't speaking of weird people, though. But now that we actually are, I agree. The dude is a couple nipples short of a titty.

I was referring to our PM conversation.

I heard he talks to himself during recording sessions.

Hey, I talk to myself all the time. Nothing wrong with that... is it :? ?

I fall into the: Teuonla is a Masterpiece, forever untouched and never duplicated, Tales from the Thousand lakes is top 5 Death Metal album of all time and Far from the Sun is a horrid piece of crap with no life to it and Elegy was just too much of everything that got jumbled together. Newbies, buy Chapters, has like 2 or 3 songs from each era and a good cross section and you can easily decide what you like the best (no Far from the sun crap but you all don't need that album)

Otherwise not a bad discussion of Amorphis, although I don't get the Anathema (modern) and Katatonia comparisons at all. Shit, now you will have everyone thiking they are some 3rd rate Radio head with dude from the Cure doing vocals....ha. Actually I like new Anathema and worship Kataonia but don't get that comparison at all?????

Well, they don't sound like Katatonia or Anathema, but I think they done some things similar. It's really not a comparison, but a reference point.

As for Far From The Sun, I agree that it can come off a bit flat sometimes, but I think it's just a little too raw for its own good sometimes and that detracts from the overall listening experience a bit. There's not as much life in it compared to Tuonela and Am Universum, but I do still think it's a good album. It's far from a bad album.

The only things I really can't dig on much of the time is the 7" EP and the Privilege Of Evil EP, they're very generic. Just plain old death metal, there's nothing to it. Occasionally I can dig on it, I won't say it's bad, but it's not really my thing. From Karelian onward they're excellent.

Yeah, FFTS would be an ok album if done by another band, it wasn't, it was done by Amorphis so it gets judged harder. I way dig Am Universium as well.

I just got on my hands the best album of this year!!
In my opinion, it will be hard to find another album as good as this one in 2006.

Just amazing stuff!

awesome

I just got this album after listening to the song "brother moon"

guys this is an excellent album... I just did check it out because the previous one "far away from the sun" was really bad, but this new one is just awesome, and their new singer is definitely the right guy for this band

This thing got me into the Kullervo legend. Now I want to read the Kalevala.

I disagree, FFTS is def not horrid.

Silent Waters is alot better then This, even though Eclipse is Great As Well.

I bought this one on a whim and I listened to it 3 times in a row. It kicks major ass. Any other Amorphis recommendations anyone?

Tales from the Thousand Lakes is truly a gem. Nothing like it, I have to listen to it at least twice each winter.
