As an old-timer on the board, I don't really think it has gotten significantly worse over time. Of course I try to stay out of the drama, but by the same token I haven't really made any e-friends either. I have taken a few month breaks rather than leave outright and I wish Zad had done the same. If, as a poster, you are simply here to talk about music, I think it is hard to get really offended.
I think the Hellheim nature of this board infects too many other areas of the board. That's where the problems usually occur. How often are people fighting in the Hellheim forum?
At the boxing board I go to, the Anything Buy Boxing forum is INSANE! It's downright hateful. But the General Boxing forum is 99% serious. The same people that will never reply seriously in the ABB forum are very serious in the GB forum.
I think at some point over the past year too much of the Hellheim nature seeped into the other forums which should be kept serious. We all go off topic, like I've said in the past, but some people more than others, a few seem to only go off topic (especially when they're in a thread about a band/style that they don't know about). Just look at the Facing Death review thread. What is all that nonsense? You'd think that considering crast—a well-known/liked poster here—being in the band it would have gotten some more serious replies and not a discussion on the international meaning of shit (or whatever that was about). I think we need to keep things much more serious in the other forums, act like a clown in this forum, that's what it's for.
Eventually things are going to be a bit more strict here, I predict.
