Metal doesn't depress me. The only albums that successfully can do that are rap albums. Immortal Technique's Revolutionary volumes 1 and 2.

You just aren't open minded enough to enjoy the brilliance that is rap music!!

Who, me? No, I really really love those albums and they really do make me depressed. I didn't mean all rap does that to me, it's just that the only two albums that I can think of that make me depressed happen to be rap.

I think you caught my sarcasm, but I should make sure.

I disagree. Discouraged Ones and Brave Murder Day have decidely more depressing lyrics, DODS has some of the most depressing riffs I've ever heard. Just the music alone makes me sad. Pretty depressing band in general really, except for Viva Emptiness, which was a pile of ass.

I am in absolute agreement.

I am in absolute disagreement.

Viva Emptiness is their best and their most depressive. Actually it is the most depressive metal album as far as I'm concerned.

I also don't consider stuff like Anathema, My Dying Bride, Agalloch or Ulver depressive. More like sad/melancholic/very emotional.

You're right. Viva Empitiness' boring "trying too hard to be heavy" riffs, lame expletive filled lyrics, and Jonas' completely mailed in performance did depress me.

People find Viva Emptiness depressing!? I always thought it was a fun, vocal-centric artsy hard rock album... like A Perfect Circle or something but not as atmospheric or good.

It's depressing to hear how overrated "Never Mind The Bollocks" is. Same goes for "Nevermind" and most everything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I forgot to mention: Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles.

If one really pays attention to the lyrics on a number of the songs, then you will realize the symbolism and hidden meanings in the lyrics. Example of this are the lyrics of A Day In The Life, which is probably the most bleak, Fixing A Hole, and others.
This symbolism is often a bleak and existentialist view on human existence; and, in a sense, can be very depressing.
I know some of you inconvertibly skeptical of such an idea, but it is true.

Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil is the most depressing album evar.

Because it sold like 630.000 only in the States. Where is this fucking world going to??

The even more depressing thing is I've heard one song off it, bat country, and thought it had a cool dual lead and a cool riff in it.

Am I a fag now?

I have heard and seen the song and video, and must say that it abominates one of the greatest films ever made. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. It is called "Bat Country" as a quote from the beginning of the film, in the desert, where a similiar scene in the video took place. They even included the same quote in the beginning of the movie. It is obvious that this was some type of satire of Fear and Loathing. Fear And Loathing is an amazing piece of work, and they fucking shat on it. Thanks A7X.
I do not say this due to my dislike for A7X, because it is not that strong, but rather my respect for the film.

I'm not gonna defend myself for this. I liked the goddamn song. If I don't happen to see it on tv again we're not gonna have any problems.

I was pretty surprised that they can actually play guitars and create good melodies, and their drummer is ok too but they just got too many cons for me to like them as a band.
