I heard this album 8 or 9 years ago in a friends car. The next day I had every manowar album. This is the album that got me into metal. I owe Manowar a debt I can never repay. I probably dont listen to them as much as I should but they still kick ass every time I listen to them. Heart of Fucking Steel!

I had a friend once who said that he would let Manowar have sex with his skanky wife as long as he got to watch. A very uncomfortable silence followed. And that was followed by everyone busting up laughing and calling him a fag in unison.

Hail and Kill is such a badass track. The opening track Wheels of Fire though is just balls to the fucking wall awesome. It is so utterly gay but the chorus just makes me want to throw kids through windows.

Best effort from the Brooklyn Vikings. HAIL AND KILL MOTHERFUCKERS

Standard Manowar - mostly awesome, with a few "fuck the what?" moments. And they clearly have no idea how to pace an album.

I still don't understand why some people say that Manowar, their songs or the album covers are gay. Where's the gay part 'cause I surely don't see it.

Manowar is generally loved and praised by their fans or totally slammed by their detractors. People harp on the gay thing because overall the music and their staing power is hard to knock. I personally love them but some people cant get past the image and because tehy dont understand it they call it gay.

Also, alll the leater and loincloths.

I totally agree to your explanation on the corelation between the music and the image, especially considering the defensive conservatism of many people.

However, even in that perspective, I still don't find this image a "gay" symbol. I mean if I was to imagine barbarian-style warriors of 2000 years ago, I would also think of tanned and muscled men with long hair and clad in leather or loincloths. There's nothing gay with that, on the contrary it's quite macho if I may use the expression. It's not like they walk around in their houses like that or go shopping in the mall just wearing a tight leather boxer. It's all about creating this medieval atmosphere (and acting on it during their live sets). If forced, I would admit that glam rocks extreme make-up (ex. Twisted Sister style) looks like gay but not Manowar.

I think gay is used as a general insult for most bands, or anything else, that people dont like. It is an easy way to write something off without explaining why you dont like something. Taking that along with the fact that Manowar frequently appears leather clad and/or shirtless, it just gives more ammo to the detractors. I think we are all guilty of calling a band gay in the past, warranted or not. We all know that the only truly gay band is Avenged Sevenfold.

Dont worry about who thinks Manowar is gay. Just realize that you are better than everybody who doesnt listen to Manowar...and that is straight from Manowar.

Seriously, though...Manowar fucking kills. Listen to Bridge of Death, and tell me they are gay. Listen to March for Revenge, Hatred, and gates of valhalla, and Dark Avenger. This got "No Homo" written all over it.
