Second best album this year for me, it totally kick ass and i wasn't expecting it to be that good. The band incorporates much more gothic in its music than any other melodic death band i've heard. That is something I expected though, since it's the main band for some of the guys from For My Pain (one of my all-time fav. gothic bands btw). Janne Tolsa from Tarot on keys gives a great performance here. Altti have a great voice, both death and clean gothic like. Some of the more speedy songs like Another Me or Tar Still Flows reminded me of Skyfire latest album Spectral. All in all it's an album i'd recommend to everyone, it's brutal yet melodic, fast and atmospheric and mostly very diverse. 95/100

P.S. I've listened this album for more than 10 times by now but I could not once hear Tony Kakko or Marco Hietala as guest singers. Does anyone know in which songs they are making an appearance ?

EToS are one of my favourite molodic death bands and are always in playlists. For me they're the Helloween of death metal - always sound upbeat and happy (they must be kicking themselves for picking their name now as it is a bit dumb).

This release is better than their first and as good as A Virgin and a Whore, so 3/3 for great records is a nice start for a career.

Also it's good that their sound has developed away from the Symphonic Black style of Chaotic Beauty and into this CoB influenced power death prog style.

93/100 for me

Ditto

Chatoic Beauty simply fucking own you and the follow up, while not as good is awesome too.

I will get this, if nothing just because those other two albums and especially Chaotic Beauty mean a lot to me.

Makes you think of Emo? lol, can tell the new generation is taking over, it should make you think of gothic metal.

Good review.

Exactly. The name "Eternal Tears Of Sorrow" was invented WAY before any of this metalcorecrap.
I remember when I first heard the name on a Finnish radio show and I was like "damn, that's a long name for a band!" :P And this was like in -97 or something, back then it was almost unheard of.

And why are you two speaking like this was their 3rd album and "Chatic Beauty" was the first one?!? They had TWO albums before that!!!!

(note: I'm not a fan of the band, but I just like to keep the facts strait :) )

Eternal Tears of Sorrow makes me think of 20 year old girls who dress in all black with gigantic boots and post sad poetry and pictures of their eyes with only the iris coloured on their deviant art.

Anyways, I've heard their first two albums and found them painfully boring and too focused on keyboards, is this one any better?

I know, but the only two I heard or those 2, not the first two. They broke up for awhile and the goth rock/metal band for my pain was born which is decent stuff too.

WOW! This is damn good! Two tracks in and I'm hooked. Hope the rest is this good.

Btw, I see why the (Very) is in the genre title.

I know of the two previous albums but they sound like they're from a totally different band. Like early Gathering stuff compared to later stuff.

And THANK YOU, another person who finds metalcore crap (without any exceptions I hope). for me, metalcore sucks as much as emo. fuck Chimaira, Killswitch, Shadows Fall, God Forbid and all the crap that goes with them.

That's like calling all death metal crap because you hate Soilwork..

And please use the term emo correctly.

Eternal Tears of Sorrow kickass. I discovered them way back in my early days of getting into metal when I was downloading Nightwish songs, some fag miss-labelled a song (actually I'm glad he did) It was EToS's Burning Flames' Embrace. To this day almost 5 years later Im still obsessed with that song and the album Chaotic Beauty. My favorite of theirs however is A Virgin And A Whore.. Love it.

This new album kicks a whole lotta ass too, quickly becoming a fav of mine it is. The opener is still the best from the album IMO.

Between Neurosis, The Postman Syndrome, Buried Inside, Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Isis, Minsk, The Mass, Sikth, Protest the Hero, The Ocean, Burst, Keelhaul, Botch, Coalesce, Shai Hulud, Cataract and Isor I'd say theres just as much good metalcore as death metal.

IMO metalcore's good when they add something else to the mix. As many of the bands you listed there do.
It's the same old boring crap that gets on my nerves. And hardcore vocals, they annoy me. What jackass thought it would be a good idea to make every second word (Insert random consonant)oooaaaaaaaaggggggrrrggghhh shouted while holding a golf ball in your mouth.
I'm off to burn some hatebreed cd's.

True, but I feel that pretty much any genre is only interesting when its mixed with something else. I'll stop hijacking the thread now =)

This album's really kick my ass, a superb and unique masterpiece with tons of cathy melodies, amazing riff and excellent performance. If the Keyboard solo part can be more, it would be better! I'm a keyboardist! Haha!

How melodic are we talking? I'd like to hear this since I like melodic death and it seems to be getting high marks here, but I'm curious if this is a case of melody overkill.

Oh, and noodles, did I really just read you referring to Neurosis as metalcore?
