You're a better writer than me, that's for certain! Much nicer way of putting 'they ripped off Opeth and Zyklon' than I did...still, agreed overall, a good album. Fred, we want more!

83, I gave it.

Saying a band ripped someone off is a bold statement. Let's be honest here, it's death metal, how original do you want it? I think Canopy does a superb job of taking a style and giving it enough added ingredients to separate it from the norm. If it's Opeth-like, fine, Opeth are a semi-unique band in their own right. There's only so much a band can do to separate themselves from their peers and still play this style of music. I think they do a damn fine job of it.

Of course, my opinion is based off the two demos as I've not heard this yet. They could rapping now (I hope).

Mmm. Being fair, I think I might have gone on about the originality of their music a bit too much in my review - don't get me wrong, it is excellent stuff, well-played and that. It was just this sense I had that I'd heard it before...not necessarily a bad thing, but I'd have appreciated them going in a new direction more.

Well, let's not get too hasty. More guest vocals (more screams!) would be great, as Kayla said, Concentric is a highlight.

Well, I look forward to hearing it. The first demo was good, but flawed, the second demo was fucking excellent, so this one I have high hopes for.

I listen to very little death metal, though, so what is unoriginal to you is likely not so to me, you know? I haven't much to compare them to.

You should enjoy it. I wouldn't reccomend it to someone fresh to the genre, though, there's not that much melody. I thought it was quite a bit heavier than the EPs, none of your "For The Sickened Voice To Hear" softy-shit here! There's a lot to listen to - the middle of 'The Bleeding Earth' is great, singing birds, soft and proggy - then back to the Death Metal.

I don't necessarily need melody, I need something that's just not ridiculously brutal. You know, blast beats that go on for four minutes, vocals that you can't understand, that just grumble along, lighting fast riffs that never change, etc. Traditional death metal, I guess. Something like this is cool with me.

I wouldn't say Canopy was ripping off Opeth at all, any more than Deicide ripped off Morbid Angel. It's just a subgenre that's not very populated, so when someone does something within it, the comparison is inevitable.

It was my pleasure, Crast. I wish I could come see you guys at Mølla!

I need to get this. I liked them the day crast posted some samples and I was hooked the day I saw "For the sickened voice to hear." Definitely a band for the future.

I got this album today, listen to it all day.

Verdict: Badfuckingass!!

I love the weird proggy breakdowns, and the rock breakdown in the title track. Great shit indeed.
