Nerd out? Hahaha. I'm here to enlighten people, douchiepoo! And I do enjoy some commercial music, if it's good, it's good, you know. But I surely know what it is to change your style and go "commercial" and The Gathering have not do that.

No, the last two Anathema albums are not commercial. How are they? Because they're mellower, they're more commercial? Your definition of "commercial" comes from your elitist stance, plain and simple. That's not an insult, just a fact. What is commercial to you is still underground shit! You think The Gathering and Anathema are somehow more mainstream now?? Come on, dude! Get real.

Yeah, once in awhile (usually after Ive blasted some good heavy metal for like 2 hours) I do like to just sit back with some calming/slowish music. I like Mazzy Star and I do like this new The Gathering, but I could never listen to it all that often. I will definately check out their back catalogue.

You are insane. New Anathema or the Gathering or only underground because of the lables they are own. They make radio friendly commercial music in a GOOD way. Commercial music that should be on the radio or on college rock lists everywhere but are not. Just because something is commercial sounding doesn't make it bad, and just because it is commercial sounding doesn't mean it is going to get commercial success.

There is no such thing as commercial music unless it's commercially marketed as such. Otherwise it's just good music, which Anathema and The Gathering have a firm grasp on. Whether or not it could or should be played on the radio is totally debateable. Many here would think Burzum should be played on the radio! It doesn't make it commercially-viable music, it just makes it good, in their eyes. Your definition of commercial music is based not on fact, but opinion of what you deem to be music that could/should be played on the radion, and that could be any band of any genre. It means nothing.

I never once said I didn't like newer Gathering. I just said it pales in comparison to how unique they once were. Now they are not unique and just following the herd of other extreme bands (Anathema, 3rd and the Mortal, Manes.....etc)

I own everything from always on up. I don't think I like Home. The Gathering rely way too much on Anneke's voice but not in a good way like how Radiohead and Dredg rely on their singers's voices and suceed. Home is probably their worst album yet too.

Their early stuff is great. Did I deny that? I also think How To Measure A Planet? is a fucking masterpiece and I really like everything else.

Dude, I can deal with you owning them. I can deal with you disliking them.
