I wouldn't call Orphaned Land folk.

Mid-eastern folk, accroding to Archives.

Incidentally, they're doing a new album, a concept one about Hanuka.

I'll add
Nekrogoblikon
Trollfest

Both fun bands. Nekrogoblikon is more like Elvenking with harsh vocals and Trollfest is blackened folk. Great drinking music.

Beat you to it nessy  .

I'll add some more links in the hope that someone will one day listen to them.

Subway To Sally - Great German Folk metal/rock band. Very underated. Samples for all the songs off their latest album.
http://www.subwaytosally.de/pages/disco ... erview.htm

Butterfly Temple - Hail from Russia, play blackened folk.
http://www.butterflytemple.ru/?s=music&ss=mp3

Heidevolk - I know very little about this band other them they're from the Netherlands. Check 'em out, see what you think.

Yeah they're good but i find i can't listen to a full album by them, unless i'm drinking. I don't know why that is, its strange because they are fucking great.

Folk metal is on a disgusting quest to take everything that rocks about metal out of it.

Let's start a debate! Would you agree with this, guys?

I'd say he is off his rocker as well. What is his reasoning behind that statement?

*folk overload*

Crap...so much new stuff I have to check out now. I'm listening to Eluveitie from their site right now, and this is definitely something I'm going to have to get my hands on eventually (preferrably sooner rather than later). Also, Orphaned Land's next one is going to be about Hanukkah? That is the most awesome piece of news I've had for...awhile.

Oh, and whoever wrote that about folk metal has his head stuck way too far up his own rectal cavity.

Ive been listening to Trollfest alot lately and fucking love it, so much so that I was aboot to make a thread about them and then saw them mentioned a few times in here and decided not to.

Anyways, their album "Willkommen Folk Tell Drekka Fest" (I think thats what it is) is a ton of fun, I just cant stop blasting, Helvetes Hunden Garm, what a song! Im usually not a fan of blackened anything really, but I do love this band and pretty much everything I've heard from Bal-Sagoth so maybe these bands will be my door into this genre I have yet to understand.

@stuartn15ted: I agree on Subway To Sally, been listening to them for years now, great band. With that though, I have to say I did not like their last album to much.

Those of you who enjoy Drudkh and Hate Forest (and everyone else) should check this out. Atmospherically it has a lot in common with Drudkh but it sounds more like Hate Forest with a folkish edge to it, and some nice tempo changes. Everyone listen to it now.

And why has noone namedropped Wyrd yet?

I agree not their best, Herzblut would be my pick. But the new is the only album i could find links for. I wouldn't say its a bad album though, but not the best place to start with Subway To Sally.
