This is probably the only instrumental album where songs stood out from one another in only three or four listens. Its in my top 5 of this year too.

I was very surprised at how much I liked this album. I remember pooh-poohing it when you mentioned them a while back. Definitely a killer band, you're hardly aware that there are no vocals.

I too greatly dislike instrumental albums. I do however really like instrumental songs on any album.

Maybe I will have to check this out so I can see what you mean about not noticing the no vocal thing.

I like instrumental stuff because the band generally needs to put more effort into the songs to keep them interesting.

I'm the same way, I don't mind a song if it fits well within context of the rest of the songs, but generally full albums just bore me. There's something about Canvas Solaris, however, that simply overcomes that perceived missing ingredient (vocals). I think it's because they write songs and not simply instrumentals.

I'm really into this album, in my opinion it lacks a bit more use of synthz, but I think nowadays, bands that use only instrumental and can give us a great feeling are so few. A great example is the God Is An Astronaut band. These guys have some awesome songs and one can listen to the albums in their full length and still want to put it all over from the beginning again...

Give them a try, you won't regret it!

Just listened to it, I kinda get what you mean now. But I dont agree with its awesomeness, it is good though dont get me wrong. My favorite track was easily "Accidents In Mutual Silence".

I dont really like giving final scores on just one listen but if I had to, I'd say 65/100 because it is really good, I can hear the talent here, but it just doesnt interest me too much.

Instrumental nerds would probably hate me for saying, but as I listened I had this nagging thought that it would all be better with vocals. Maybe a voice similar to Geddy Lee, Michael Sadler or John West or something, I dunno.

I definitely agree, but I still think that without a vocalist the band does a stellar job.

My choice of vocalists wouldn't include Geddy Lee, though. That dude's voice annoys the hell out of me.

God is an Astronaut is good except not really anything like Canvas Solaris lol

Unlike many of you I really love instrumental albums. I allways payed particular attention to instrumental songs, for example in Metallica, Dream Theater, Testament, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Metal Church. And I was always looking for more instrumental songs in albums. Then I started to listen to Guitar Players like Joe Satriani, Marty Friedman, and then the Liquid Tension Experiment albums appeared to fill my hunger of instrumental.

I think an instrumental album is not easy to digest, but that makes it more interesting for the listener, to really have to "listen" to the music and understand all that is behind it. The instrumental music writer has also have to have the ability to communicate feelings and ideas only through music and without words, barely the song title, that is also something that I like about instrumental music.

exactly! i also like it becaus without vocal hooks or lyrics for my brain to latch on to it takes it longer to fully learn the songs.

No, but I didn't say that ;) I just refered to God Is An Astronaut as beeing a great instrumental band. At first I thought they were electronic, but then I realised I was wrong and I was stunned by their quality... ;)
