i thought this was intersting but not something i'd listen to more than a few times. You should check out Orthrelm's OV, its like minimalism meets math rock.

It's an aquired taste, takes a while to be able to listen to it, like Sunn O))) by the way, who were heavily influenced by that Dream Syndicate group I mentioned.

I'll check out that Orthrelm, I love the band but I haven't heard that one...

Hell that's cool, what do they think of your taste in music? Do they like minimalism? What do they think of the serialists? Who are their favourite composers?

my mom can't stand the drumming in metal, she's more into jazz. My dad appreciates a lot of my stuff (Adagio, Sonata Arctica, Iron Maiden- he really likes Brave New World). My mom likes whatever she finds good, but my dad has specific tastes. Recently he's been listening to Ligeti. Wether they like minimalism, i don't know, I know that he knows of it, but I don't know what he thinks of it. Nor of the serialists.
they both find Copland very good...

No metal drums? Well I gotta give them that metal drumming is usually rather primitive as opposed to most jazz drumming.
I'll check out that Aaron Cobland, heard of him but I've heard nothing by him...

when my mom listens to jazz, she listens to mostly vocal jazz. She's more for stuff like Billie Holiday rather than John McLaughlin. MY dad however likes Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
and what bothers my mom more of metal drumming is just how loud it is. that it's actually there. she doesn't like percussion.

I like Holiday as well, but I must admit liking Davis and especially Coltrane better. What does he think of John Zorn?

Is this a joke???

If not - could you link a sample please?

Is there anything in this music that is Metal (in any of its forms)?

Agreed.

So this begs the question....yet again... why is he reviewing this album on a site called "METAL REVIEWS"

If there was an "Early Minimalism / Phase Music Reviews", the lone poster on that forum would be gushing over this review, I'm sure.

As it stands, this is "Metal Reviews"

So the expectation here would be that the site is populated by one thing really. Reviews would be that one thing, true. However, the first word (we'll call this an adjective) describes the type of review. In this case it would be Metal.

If you really want the people here to check some new genre of music (which is fine and good).. post a thread in General Music or something.

Misha's reviews is a subject that has been discussed among everyone on the team. The decision was that Misha stays. There are 12 other reviews this week. Misha will likely not review a metal album each week, the best thing to do is just ignore it if you don't agree with what he reviews here. Some reviewers think it's too far out of the spectrum of metal, but as a team we're on the same page. Misha stays, thus his reviews stay.

There are plenty of other reviews to focus your words on in the forum, in my signature, and not to mention the countless threads worth checking out that too many people ignore. It's a dead issue. Misha's reviews may be a bit much, but in the end this is those reviews in comparison to everything else: .

Yes, there are tons of other things to read and comment on. No denying that.

I guess we are all pretty good at ignoring stupidity, even as blatant as this... especially online. No reason to stop now.

I'll ignore going forward.
