Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós are like Mogwai

Try Jesu, Old Man Gloom, Neurosis for stuff like pelican and Isis

And ask Noodles, he knows more bout this stuff then me and most people.

Indeed, Pelican recently turned into something post-rock, but metalish and heavy. An example of another metalish post-rock is Russian Circles.

For just good post-rock, try Godspeed You! Black Emperor, God Is An Astronaut, Do Make Say Think, Capsian, Yndi Hilda, The Samuel Jackson Five, As The Poets Affirm, enfin, I could go on for a few minutes. Some of these are heavy and Epic, others focus on beauty and serenity, and some have both.

Using Wikipedia will get you a shitload of bands by the way.

OMFGHOWISNEUROSISNOTONYOURLIST

*brain hemmorage*

but seriously you need to hear Neurosis's Through Silver In Blood, A Sun That Never Sets, or The Eye of Every Storm. Also check out Gospel and The Postman Syndrome. And Kayo Dot, although you said maudlin of the Well so you might already know them. I know a few others but don't want to throw 50000000000 names at you :P

on a side note, am I the only one who thinks that the first four songs of The Fire in our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw are great, but then it gets lost in unfocused, boring feedbacky stuff for the last 3 songs?

haha yeah I talk about The Postman Syndrome a lot. Mostly because it's like they took 2 of my favourite bands (Tool and Neurosis) and squished them together, then added a dash of artsy rock and 70s prog for good measure.

No one else seems to know of them though... not even in a "let's care about them after they've broken up!" kind of way like what happened with City of Caterpillar >_<. I've pretty much only seen positive reviews of Terraforming though, and everyone I've played them to has liked them (even my mom, although she didn't like the guy yelling in the background :P). I don't think they have any mp3 samples anywhere, but I can send you their album if you add me to MSN or Soulseek (wogbog is my name there)
