Me !

He has written one of the most memorable rpg tune : The Opening theme for FF VI. One of the most beautiful melodies ever. Overall I think FF VI has the best game soundtrack. FFVIII is second on my list.

Both of the Black Mages albums are good. Especially the boss battle music from FF VI is superb.

I agree that FFVI has probably the best game soundtrack of all time. Though I also really like the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack (even though many consider it one of his weaker scores). FF8's soundtrack was okay but sounded too "teen movie"-ish. And FF7's soundtrack would've been a lot better if the MIDI samples were of a higher quality.

FFX's soundtrack I never really payed as much attention to since it was probably more subtle than other FF soundtracks. Though I must admit FFX definitely had the best battle theme of any FF.

Though my second favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack is the soundtrack for Final Fantasy Tactics, which was not composed by Uematsu.

uh.. i'm a big Nobuo Uematsu fan, his a genius :D ... i have to say that i find the FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX almost equally good, they all have incredible tracks.. perhaps FFVIII is the weakest link, but there's some nice moments nonetheless.
I have always like the crappy sound quality (midi-like) on FFVII, since it gives the game some what a futuristic atmosphere.
And FFIX has some real fantasy music... yummi
FFVI has some rather awsome tracks as well.. beatiful!

i once dload all FF OST + the piano/orchestral versions, i don't have them anymore though, but i listened to them all the time back then.

btw.. don't forget Chrono Trigger!!! really really awsome music as well, and the music tributes a great deal to the atmosphere in the universe of the game as well.. anything from stone age to medieval to a doomed future... and even beyong time itself
imo this music is just as good as the FF Ost, if not better. It's also lovely oldschool-like some places.. you know, with the peaceful songs in the beginning of the game where everything is nothing but birdiesong and happiness.. Weee

funny this guy was mentioned.. i have been thinking about dloading some of the best songs and then upload to MR for a long time, so we don't forget the music. :)

The man is like the japanese John Williams.

Chrono Trigger's soundtrack, as well as Chrono Cross ... just rule too. Who's the composer?

Uh ... I was just doing a research about that ... guess I'm in a videogame music mood now :D

Uematsu DID compose some songs for Chrono Trigger, but only because the main composer Yasunori Mitsuda got sick in the middle of the project. But most of the soundtrack was Mitsuda's work. He also composed Xenogears and Chrono Cross soundtracks. Don't know about Xenogears, but Chrono Cross soundtrack is just as good as Chrono Trigger's ...

Anyway ... my favourite soundtrack would have to be FFVII ... The orchestrated versions of the main theme and Aeris' theme .. they just can't be beaten.

Xenogears probably has one of the most interesting game soundtracks I've ever heard.

-It's very Irish inspired and millitaristic.

-It has a slightly MIDI-ish sound, but you'll get used to it after a while.

-Some of the songs have actual lyrics.

-The boss battle theme is actually played at a slower speed for some of the scenes with Solaris.

-The main battle theme rocks.

-As does the rest of the soundtrack. :dio:
