Good album if slightly overrated. This could very much be the german Turisas and i hear very good things about their next album Sagas. I'm finding it hard to get used to the vocals, they can be very raspy and buried in the mix. I'd give this an 80.

Btw, I noticed when i was listening this german folk metal band Thiasos Dionysos that the opening riff in Siegestanz is close, if not identical to the one in Wingthors Hammer, just played at different speed. I wonder who borrowed from who.

Oh yeah...good review and welcome to MR. I hope you're here to stay.

first and foremost, welcome to MR!

it's a nice review, made me want to check out the album despite the fact that i'm not a viking/folk metal fan at all.

just one thing though, it's "in the vein of", not "in the vain".

I love the album, but the bm vocals are not very diverse on this one alonmg with the grunts. I get burnt out on it after a while, but these are very good musicians with very capable songwriting skills.
However, having said that I prefer say Moonsorrow and Turisas or even Falkenbach/Forefather or Folkearth..lol alot of F bands?

Thanks for the welcome! Ha, damn. You are right, I have been listening to too much death metal lately>.> I am not really a folk/viking metal fan either, but you really need to check this band out.

Welcome to the boards man. You chose an awesome band to start with. Awesome Folk metal. This band writes some really catchy stuff. This album is great for a night of drinking or pillaging small villages with swords and fire arrows.

I have the same opinion as some of readers: musically this CD is very good but the vocals were too one-dimensional and seemed to get lost in the mix more often than not. Though perhaps it would make them sound a bit like Ensiferum I feel this band actually needs some clean vocals or at least a less-generic raspy style.

Hi Dylan,

Gratz on this review: you just reviewed one of my all time favorite albums. I feel the same as you when I listen to this masterpiece.

They are in my top 3 all time favorties album with Ensiferum 1st full album and Wintersun.

They have a demo album before this one, with most of them being the same tracks, except for the second track called "Nach dem Winter". If you can get it, you'll like it for sure, the riffing-melody is .... telling another quest :)

Okay mate, keep reviewing :)

We're not gonna fight too much on musical tastes it seems :D
Try also "Lemuria" band, track 3: "A day of Reckoning" from Album "Tales, Ale and Fire". in between Equlibrium and Finntroll :dio:
