Thanks for the review ! It was great.

Splendid album I'd say. It seems that Angra just cannot release a bad album. Not as good as Temple Of Shadows (which is perfect) but still a very good album.

Aquiles Priester is one of the best (if not the best) drummers out there. Amazing guy.

90/100

Wow! 16 reviews! Best MR week ever :dio:

The single left me underwhelmed, but this is still high on my list of albums to get my hands on. If it's anywhere near the quality of ToS I'll shit myself with joy :)

Couple thoughts on this album. First, I really really like the heavier direction Angra has taken on. The first album I heard of Angra's was 'Rebirth' and though the music was good it was just too light for my tastes. I thought I would give them another chance with 'Temple of Shadows' because I read that the album was a lot heavier. I ended up liking that album quite a bit despite some overly happy moments. I was then exited to hear that with this new album again Angra would move in a heavier direction.

I mean the good thing about this is Angra has not changed there sound one bit by becoming heavier. They still sound the exact same only with a lot more balls and aggression enhansing there sound. The complexities, dynamics, and Brazilian sounds are still everpresent in there music.

Songs that really stood out to me were 'Course of Nature' with the cool thrashy verse lines, the guitar harmonies in the chorus, and the fantastic aggressive and thrashy bridge that comes out of nowhere and these guitarist trade off some really shredding and tasteful guitar solos. 'Ego Painted Grey', 'Salvation Suiside', and 'Passing By' are all outstanding as well.

A couple songs that I wish could have been better are 'Voice Commanding You', Window to Nowhere' and 'Scream your Heart Out'. I mean all 3 of these songs start out with killer intro's but somehow I was not taken in by the choruses and the songs fell a bit flat.

Overall I feel this is about a tie with 'Temple of Shadows'. That album may have had a few more songs I liked but the standout songs from this album I liked even better along with the expanded heavier sound.

I have to second the reviewer on the drummer as well. I mean this guy is truely an amazing drummer and comes up with some really creative and outside the box beats.

The production on this album is flawless as well........

My Score 85/100

I loved "Temple of Shadows", particularly the heavier/faster songs like Spread Your Fire, Temple of Hate and Winds of Destination (though i liked almost every song on it).

i HAVE to check this one out.

btw, i'm loving this week at MR.com :dio:

Nice review, but the album is definitely a step back for Angra. This is one of my all time favorite bands, but this album was very disappointing compared to their latest two efforts. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great album, but they really could've at least added a couple more songs (short friggin album). I'm also a freak for catchy metal and the songs on this are less catchy than TOS and Rebirth, but there are a few tracks that still blew my mind. Overall, 75/100, could have been better.

Btw, TOS and Angels Cry should be labeled classics.

I think this album is similar to what BG did with their new album. In one aspect, it harkens to older, heavier stuff. It still maintains some of the bombast from the previous album, but it's more stripped down. Then it pushes some of the more progressive elements as well as try a few new modern sounds. This one is also like ATiTM in the fact that it seems meant to be less "easy" listening. It's not as overall catchy as Angra tends to be, but it's still really good music.

I think it gets boring to easily.

There are a couple of songs I don't really get into. Then there are a couple I had to hear a few times. I loved the rest of the album right away though.

Same it just doesn't hold my interest and I love power/progressive/technical metal but I find myself switching back to other recent releases I like much more. I really like Angra's previous cds which I have played to death but not this one.

Same with me. Rebirth was my first listening experience of Angra, but it didnt hold my attention for very long.

So how is Angra sounding now with the new album since the times of "Rebirth"? How many album have they released since Rebirth? 2, right?

Well they sound a lot heavier to me on this album as well as their last output 'Temple of Shadows' A lot more aggresive as well, something I thought was sorely lacking in there sound. Don't expect an all out thrash sound or anything. I just think they have made the transition from a lighter sounding power/prog band to a heavier sounding power/prog band. I am sure they have some clips of there recent tracks on their website so you can decide for yourself.......

Peace

I have to admit, that track is growing on me quite a bit. The guitar work is really killer on this track. Though the guitar work is killer on almost every track!
