I'm just curious...But it seems in the past few months, metalcore reviews haven't been positive. So what is the point of even reviewing them?

Well, it's a bit tricky with the reviews and scores lately. Some people give high scores easily and some don't. I don't think that a 70ish score means the album is bad. It's just that people get this impression when they subconsiously compare to the many albums that are often unworthy of their bigger quotes.
Also, since MR still apparently review many subgenres of metal (and a good thing that is!), some even hardly related to it, then why not review metalcore which is a considerably active albeit commercial part of it?

Now as for the review! I think the review was excellent. I don't listen to this kind of metal much and I've heard only a few songs from this album but it appears that the review was right on target. The music is catchy and is very well made as far as execution is concerned. As he also mentioned, there's unfortunately not much originality and I thought the vocals were weak at some points. I don't think anyone buying this will feel sorry for his money but it's not an essential buy either.

The only reason i listened to Bedtime Prayer after reading the review is because I've heard the band debut album. Divine is a nice slab of melodeath, very unoriginal and you get the feeling there are like 4-5 songs on the album because they all sound alike, but in the end it's quite enjoyable and short enough. Its simplicity and catchiness made for a good 3 or 4 listens before moving to something else.

I think that Alex review for Bedtime Prayers would fit more Divine with a score in the mid 70's. His description would have been spot on for the debut. I guess i just don't like metalcore to consider it catchy. In the end the only redeeming thing about this album is its length.
