I'm even on the second DVD. There is one part where they show a bunch of people sitting around singing BG songs to a guitar, I'm on the left for about 1.2 seconds.

That was an amazing weekend.

I remember that scene. I can believe that was one amazing weekend.

I simply have to get over there to see a show. Most live metal performances in the US are in clubs, but to be in an open air environment with thousands and not just hundreds of other fans has to be a lifetime experience.

Great live performance!!! Amazing!!! :) And to review... One song I missed: "Don't Break The Circle". :) But we have "The Last Candle" which is very close to it, so I'm not disappointed really. :)

This one is in the mail for me. From the review I have but two complaints. They left out "Into the Storm" and my favorite track "Born in a Mourning Hall."

Open Air fests in Europe are amazing. I'll never forget the 2002 Gods of Metal Festival. Day one headliners were Halford and Slayer back to back. Day two had Symphony X, Running Wild and Blind Guardian in a row with Manowar headlining. The crowd was fanatical about each band and the night just seemed magical.

I want this DVD NOW !!!

I have never anticipated a DVD from a musical band that much and considering that i am a DVD freak and own a lot of them (concerts) , that says a lot.

I noticed theres no shots of Oliver on bass. It's a shame too cos I remember at PP III he was a fucking mad man back in his little corner.

Ive had this for a few days and now that Ive digested this I have mixed thoughts on it. I know not every band can be as good as Brainstorm or Edguy live but seeing Blind Guardians live performance from my chair instead of the fourth row changes things a bit. I really think Hansi is an extremely boring frontman. In Last Candle me and one of my friends thought he looked like he was about to fall asleep. I mean, I really like this band, alot, but seeing this makes them lose some of their mystique almost as the bards of metal. Tom Engulnd for example, Evergreys music is as complex in my opinion as Blind Guardians yet even though hes behind a guitar he is alot more charismatic than Kursch. Hansi just doesnt put out a charismatic vibe, you dont get sucked into his performance. I dont know, I'm probably the only one here that felt this when I watched the dvd. Anyways, its past midnight, I need sleep.

Ok. I finally got it and have watched it.

First impressions:

The sound is amazing!!! I've NEVER heard a concert DVD that sounded this good. The surround blew me away. Each instrument comes through crystal clear; better than it probably sounded in person. Hansi could be heard so well, I discovered lyrics I never knew existed. Thomen blasted through the subwoofer. Great setlist and even though it wasn't included on the main concert, "Into the Storm" still made it on the DVD in the bonus disc. I know I'm an idiotic fanboy but a BG live isn't complete for me without "Born in a Mourning Hall" I still have the stellar performance on the live album though.

I like how they sort of but not really copied the design in terms of the DVD menu of the Lord of the Rings DVDs. That was really cool. The extras were excellent including the behind the scenes at the BG open air and the interview with band. Extremely insightful and relevant.

Ben: I remember when I saw them for the second time and I was just entranced for the entire performance. When they played Mirror Mirror to close, I was genuinely sad for I knew it was there last song and I was having entirely too much fun for them to be finished playing. If Hansi had sat in a wheelchair, nursing a scotch and soda at the side of the stage, it wouldn't have mattered because they sounded so amazing and enraptured me with their playing. Tobias Sammett can do all the splits he wants. BG still rules for me.

I can promise you all this. Come hell or high water, I WILL ATTEND THE NEXT BG OPEN AIR!!!

I think it's incredible how Blind Guardian manages to make all of their albums to sound so crystal clear, I mean just listen to the live album, it sounds perfect. One of the best live albums ever by the way.

I'll keep looking.

I've been looking to get this for awhile, considering if I never listened to Blind Guardian, I wouldn't like metal. But one of my friends is a Blind Guardian fanatic, and it would just be wrong to get the DVD before he does.

I smell a conspiracy.
BTW, it also shredded my new Lake of Tears - Black Brick Road, although I suspect that was only collateral damage.
