Are you Gifted/Talented?
From the following sixteen facts, try to determine:

A. Who drinks the water?
B. Who owns the zebra?

1. There are five houses.
2. The Englishman lives in the red house
3. The Spaniard owns a dog
4. Coffee is drunk in the green house
5. The Ukranian drinks tea
6. The green house is immediately to the right of the ivory house
7. The Old Gold smoker owns snails
8. Kools are smoked in the yellow house
9. Milk is drunk in the middle house
10. The Norwegian lives in the first house
11. The Chesterfields smoker lives next door to the man with the fox
12. Kools are smoked in the house next to the house with the horse
13. The Lucky Strike smoker drinks orange juice
14. The Japanese smokes Parliaments
15. The Norwegian lives next door to the blue house.
16. In each house there is one nationality, one pet, one cigarette smoker and one liquid drink.

President Kennedy solved this problem in 21 minutes. The Advertising Director of a famous national magazine took over 2 hours to solve it...how about you?

I used Excel to speed the process up a bit.... i spend 23-25 minutes in total figuring it out how to attack the problem etc, including time to disprove myself by relocating some of the statements in order to see if there were several solutions - double check.

i wrote the answer in black to avoid giving the answer to other ppl who wants to solve this by themselves.. however... it's not possible to cover it up that well.. u can still see the answer without marking it... so don't look too closely

... And my results: The Norwigian drinks Water and the Japanese owns a Zebra

... and Tlaloc, plz tell me if my answer is wrong :P

So far I've got the water drinker after about 30 mins but now I'm stuck. Do you know that A & B aren't the same person? :\

i quit after 40 minutes. someone post a detailed explanation.

EDIT - this is what i did this afternoon (font size reduced so as not to spoil anything.. not that i got any answers ):

i put the 5 different factors (nationality, house colour cigarette brand, drink and pet) and assigned the corresponding nationality to the later 4 factors, like so:

Colours:
-Blue - the Norwegian lives in the first house, which is immediately to the left of the blue house. The Englishman lives in a red house. with this in mind, the second house from the left is inhabited by either the Ukranian, Jap or Spaniard
-Red - the Englishman lives here.
- Yellow - either NOR, SPA or UKR.
- Ivory - this is the the 3rd or 4th house from the left. it's either the JAP, SPA or UKR.
- Green - depending on the position of the ivory house, this is the 4th or 5th house from the left. since Coffee is drunk here, either SPA or JAP live here.

Drinks:
- Milk - either ENG, JAP or SPA.
- Coffee - it's either JAP or SPA.
- OJ - either SPA, ENG or NOR.
- Tea - UKR
- (water) - ??

Pets:
- dog - SPA
- horse
- fox
- snails - either ENG, NOR or UKR.
- (zebra)

Cigarettes:
- Lucky Strike - SPA, ENG or NOR
- Old Gold - ENG, NOR or UKR.
- Parliament - JAP
- Kool - NOR, SPA or UKR.
- Chesterfield

and now what? please, i won't be able to sleep at night
or at least tell me if i'm attacking the problem correctly.
