1. Jon Oliva's Pain - Timeless Flight
2. Elvenking - The Wanderer
3. Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Angelheart, Ravenheart (Act 1: Before The Bleeding Sun)
4. Saga - I'm Ok
5. Falconer - Northwind

I just know Im forgetting some songs. Also I limited to 1 song per band, else it would have been all Jon Oliva's Pain, or at the very least the top 3 would have been.

Good list. If i was making a top 10 four of the bands you listed would have been in it though with different songs. Elvenking with Rouse Your Dream, Falconer with Spirit Of The Hawk, Jon Oliva with Maniacal Renderings and EToS with Red Dawn Rising.

Now that i look at my list i realize that all songs, besides being my fav. of the year, also have the best solos. A good solo really makes a song great. :)

I was stuck with choosing between Maniacal Renderings and Timeless Flight, they are both basically equal to me with Timeless Flight getting a slight nod for the shivers it gives me after the solo section in the middle.

These lists tend to be more like "Best song from top 5 best albums", understandably it's difficult to compare songs between bands.
In no particular order:

Blind Guardian - Turn the page (This is how their next album ought to sound: shamelessly melodic)
Jon Oliva's Pain - The answer (Ballad sung by Jon Oliva, need I say more?)
Virgin Steele - God above god (Difficult to pick the best song of this album, but this is probably it)
Angra - So near, so far (A temporary revisit to the Holy Land)
Saviour Machine - World War III/II [Rough mix of midi samples] (Sometimes less is more)

I just got Therion - Gothic Kabbalah today, unfortunately it's a 2007 release, so it didn't make the list.

Dragonland - Contact
Obsession - Carnival of Lies
The Dogma - Queen of the Damned
Iron Maiden - The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Bullet For My Valentine - Tears Don't Fall (yeah this kinda sticks out among the others but it has a huge sentimental value for me)

Actually this list is not like that at all, except for The Dogma which is at the very top of my 2006 list.

I actually based mine on what I found myself singing to the most when I was driving in the car or out walking with my IPod Shuffle.

For me these are just great songs that I personally had the most fun pounding the steering wheel and singing my fool ass off to.
