With Apollo Panathansio handling the vocal duties, Firewind is now able to return to the more "throaty" and "muscular" singing style that we saw with Stephen Fredrick for the first two albums

I strongly disagree.

While a decent album, this is easily Firewind's weakest so far and Apollo is the weak link.

My take

This one's getting excellent reviews just about everywhere...9/10 on Blabbermouth (almost unheard of). But, I can see by how some might be "put off" by the more more melodic hard rock approach as compared to the power metal style of previous work. Let's see what others think...I think this thread has the potential to be a long one!

Hopefully. :) I'm glad to see Firewind getting some recognition at long last, but I just fear they've gone through too many changes.

It looks like the lead singer position is the equivalent to the drummer in Spinal Tap.
Anyway good but not great CD.

I've been listening to this album for a few weeks already and I think it's a very good release for Gus G and his gang. I don't mind the slightly slower tempo and reduced heaviness compared to their previous releases since a lot of catchy melodies are there to cover up. And by the way, I love Apollo's vocals - I think this man is a huge talent and an amazing singer who sings with passion. Btw, I think the last song should be included in the "Killing Songs". For me this is around 90/100.

This album is perfect for what it is, some solid catchy metal. It is true that it doesn't have that much longevity like someone said, but it's still damn enjoyable and worth buying for most metal fans. And the singer rocks! 90/100

This would seem the perfect thread for Ken to chime in, but he is apparently MIA

The only song I've liked from Firewind was Warrior. However, by the sounds of the review, this release might be more geared to my tastes. I'v enjoyed listening Gus G's playing on Dream Evil and a bit of Mystic Prophesy, so I'll give this band another go. It is his main band, after all.

Well I've given this CD 4 or 5 spins now and I'm liking it. There aren't any killer tracks, but a lot of very good ones, Falling To Pieces, Ready to Strike, Breaking the Silence and Till the End of Time being my favorites. For Melodic metal, the choruses don't stick out as much as I would expect, but still very enjoyable. Nothing wrong with the musicianship, top notch. I'm digging the vocalist too. 75% for me.

This one sort of falls in line with Edguy's Rocket Ride. It's more of a rock album than anything else. I really like it, and I think there are some killer tunes here. Of course, I'm no expert on the band, having only heard this one and Forged By Fire, but I can't see how the new singer is somehow to blame for any of this being subpar. He's not the one writing songs, right?

Either way, I really dig this album. :dio:

I cant say I liked this album much....its the first one I hear by Firewind. The guitar work by Gus is amazing, but other than that I wouldn't give this album more than a 70/100.

I'm just too used to the rough bellow of Stephen Fredrick from the first two albums is all. Apollo a good snger, but just not what I want from Firewind.
