It took me a while after getting into metal to be able to deal with a female singer in a metal band. it just didnt work for me. Now, though there are a few that i enjoy listening to. The singer from Madder Mortem is pretty sick. SHe is probably the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Agreed, Agnete of Madder Mortem has a great voice.

As for female singer's in general, I dunno, but I think it's moreoften the music of the band that puts me of than the singer herself. To me most female fronted band's seem quite the same, in the way that they're often just.. boring.

One impression I've got is that a lot of singer's tend to sound the same too. Female singer's in metal seems to have a certain sound, in a way. Or maybe it's just that I've happened to dislike the certain female fronted band's I've cared to pay attention to by chance. Maybe I've been listening to the wrong one's.

I often love how bands throw in female singing for parts or in certain songs though, for example in Dark Tranquillity's The Gallery or The Phantom Opera Ghost by Iced Earth. :dio:

This band is cool. I've heard a few songs from them, but never got much farther than that, but they're pretty cool.

And I knew that one of Rocky Gray's bands did this song, I just wasn't sure wether it was Living Sacrifice or this one.

The original's pretty awesome. :dio:

Rocky Gray was in Living Sacrifice! That's fucking funny! My friend Caleb was obssessed with that band. I called it Slayer Inverted. Musically, it was a total Slayer rip-off with Christian lyrics. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard in my life. The vocalist was even trying to emulate Tom Araya! Ridiculous.

I used to know Rocky from my days in Little Rock. He worked at Camelot Music at the McCain Mall in N. Little Rock. I used to go in there and talk shit with him all the time. He was in a band called Shredded Corpse and Fleshcompressor. Two tottaly brutal death metal bands. One day I go in and he's like, "Dude, I joined Living Sacrifice!"

Me:

Hahaha. His other bands were not Christian at all. But good for him, you know? I wish I'd stayed in touch with him, though!

Anyway, anything from Reborn on from Living Sacrifice is great; and Soul Embraced is awesome!

Yeah, you can't argue with the readers of Metal Hammer.

Best new band: Turisas (formed in 1997). Runners up: Gojira (formed in 1996, released their third album in 2005).

And a bunch of other stupid shit I can't remember.

I admit I buy Metal Hammer every month, but I don't know why (must be that loyalty thing as I've been buying it for like fifteen years!)! Metal Hammer give awful reviews (I'd say off the top of my head that 90% of their reviews come in at 8+/10), hence the reason why I kick around here as I wouldn't say there is a preference to rate high on this site.

However, in reference to MH I remember they gave this album 5/10 and said that it was an Amy Lee fronted band which mirrors this review.

Ironically, I know things hit the fan in this particular thread, but try out the online Metal Hammer Forums... If you had a slight disagreement with the regulars on there, they all but lynch ya!

Whoa! Vindication at its finest. Amy Lee should sue you for insulting her in your "review."

People that read Metal Hammer and then complain about how rubbish it is are really annoying. It's veeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyy simple - DON'T. BUY. IT.

I know, I know I shouldn't buy it, but it's like something I've bought since I was in school and I realise that it's closer to 18 years since I've been buying it! But in my defence and to offer some sort of vindication (as if I need to), it does give away some fairly good freebies and some of the feautures aren't bad, but I admit that a lot of it's reviews suck and it is aimed more for teenagers than the old schoolers! Hey-ho!

Oh, and my Missus owns both of the Evanescence's albums and they both suck (and this latest album is just teen-girl-angst fodder of a pop-rock, non-metal kind!)! I'd rather Draconian, Within Temptation or early Nightwish than this over produced US drivel!

Call it my guilty pleasure. She writes good songs, has a good voice. If I like something, I'm not going to quibble too much.

Well yeah, but my point is bands approaching 11 years old can't really be considered new. Unless you only heard about them 6 months ago and thought "OMFG DIS SHIZ IS BR00TALZ I BET DEY IS INFLUENCED BY DA ARCH ENEMY!!" Then I could see where you're coming from.

Zad: I don't buy Metal Hammer, a mate of mine does. When I'm at his house I flick through to feel my blood pressure rise.

I suppose that's key to eveything in life! I admit I love Slipknot just before I go out on the lash. Maybe it's the tribal instinct in me, but their basic 'pop' songs' get my juices flowing! I don't like Evanescence, but I will never slag off someone who does as it's their prerogative to like whatever they want (unless it's my missus and this Amy woman's wailing at me when I'm getting down to some serious beer drinking [sic]!).

Well, I'd say post-Max Sepultura were better for that, but as you said, not up to me! Go with the flow...

Eyesore: The one thing we agree on. :)
