there was a referendum here in Portugal today regading this subject, and people won't shut the hell up about it (despite the fact that only 30% of the registered voters actually exercised their right!), so i thought i'd ask what you guys think.

the question was the legalization of abortion in all cases (not just rape, fetus malformation, etc), up to the 10th week of pregnancy.

i say YES, in every case.

a big complaint from the NO crowd here was that legalization would lead to liberalization and that people would abort left and right. i don't think that'd happen, people understand that it's an extreme measure and only to be used as a last resort.

the biggest problem with both sides was that some considered the 10 week old fetus "alive" while others didn't, and imo that's the main reason why people rarely change opinions regarding abortion. to me, a 10 week old fetus simply isn't "alive" like you or me, and (as far as i know) it doesn't even have its own heart beating at that point. to me, considering an abortion at that stage murder is the same as saying that birth control pills = murder.

so, what do you think?

I'm all in for abortion, 10 days seems to be a bit short, I personally would see more benefit in 10 years. In some cases, abortion should be possible in the post-adolescence period. That'll teach em.

yeah, if it were up to me i'd legalize retroactive abortion up to 12 years, and 16 in case of emo*.

*between the ages of 12-16 two factors would decide whether a rectroactive abortion would take place:
1. "males" - if the hair in front of their faces covered the eyes, then there clearly there would be no solution other than RA.
2. females - if the chick has potential to be hot in the future then she would be spared from RA.

Countries that legalize abortion tend to experience a drop in crime about 18 years later. The reason, of course, is that abortion=less unwanted kids=less neglected kids=less angry and bitter adults=less crime.

As a male, I don't see what it has to do with me. It's the woman's choice, so she should be able to do it as late as she wants.

No. Completely disagree. If you’re not ready for a kid don't have sex. I understand that may sound ridiculous, but if you don't think you can raise a child keep it in your pants.
