Yes, your favourite pc-illitterate forumite is at it again!

It happened this way: suddenly Internet Explorer (which, contrary to popular belief, has always worked more than fine on my pc) just stopped working. By that I mean, that when I click upon it, it tries to open a page, but freezes shortly afterwards, and nothing changes until I perform the good ol' ctrl+alt+del trick. What's even more confusing is that if I try to right click the icon in the traybar, if the window opos up, the loading of the page proceeds a bit further! But if I move the mouse away from the window, or click any of the options (minimize, close, etc.) it freezes all the same.

So now I'm using Firefox, but here's the deal: apparently this browser really hates my Hotmail account; I can't add attachments and the likes... until tonight, when it suddenly decided that I can't open my Hotmail page because "it takes too long to load" (and it's not the server being too busy, it workd fine on my friend's pc).
As all my accounts (my personal one and my bands' contacts) are Hotmail addresses, I REALLY need to know what can I do to get my IE back on track again.
Yes, I find myself more comfortable with IE than Firefox; there, I said it.

UPDATE: don't mention trying to dowload another browser, everytime I try to download something brings to that "time out" page which I already hate with a passion by now. Several of the sites I visit daily also show the same result.

In 12 years I've not had one problem with IE. People are just stupid—no offense.

Honestly, have you run your anti-virus programs (anti-virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc.)? If so, can you clear your cookies and temporary internet files through IE, can you do that without it freezing? If not, go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Login\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files, select all the folder and files under Temporary Internet Files and delete them. Some you may not be able to delete, though. Skip those. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Login\Cookies, and delete all of those. Reboot. Try again.

If that doesn't work, I would try and find a copy of IE and re-install it. If you know no one with a copy I'm sure one of us could get it out to you on CDR.

I think there are ways to repair IE. I'm too lazy to search right now but just google "repair Internet Explorer" and I'm sure you'll find some leads.

About IE, ive never had a problem with it, but i use firefox since its faster and has a lot of browsing advantages.

I never had a problem with IE either but Mozilla/Firefox is just plain better. I can't even stand to click on the "E" anymore.

Are you through a firewall or anything? ADSL? Cable? Dial up? Sometimes I used to have this issue with my ADSL in Taiwan but it was just server timing out and I think I reset things on my Firewall. Downloads and all of that shit would time out and I couldn't access some sites I always used too.

IE 7.0 is pretty sweet. When I downloaded it I was like, "Man, IE 7.0 has tabs! They kick ass!" All my friends were like, "You fag. Firefox has had that shit for years."

I switched to Firefox cos my mum accidentally downloaded it with google earth somehow

It hasnt fucked up with my hotmail at all though, so ^^^^ i would follow that advice.

I use firefox and kelly uses ie so we can each have our own seperate set of bookmarks and cookies for myspace or hotmail or whatnot.

You can do that with IE. What kind of nerd are you, anyway?

Try this. Go to the control panel, double click on internet options. You will get the internet options window. Delete cookies, delete files(check the box that says delete all off line content), click on the advanced tab and uncheck the option "enable third party browser extensions" . Click on apply and then ok.
