I just bought a new computer, and it came with Vista ultimate edition pre-installed. I think that's a good version, but there are so God-damn many, I'm not completely sure where it ranks.

Does anyone else have Vista yet, and if so, what are your thoughts?

I actually really like it -- slick as fuck.

It's not as bad as all the self-made critics claim it to be, but I'll be taking Linux on my next computer.

I've only used it for about 15 minutes on my friend's laptop, it was ok.

My roomate installed it on his home theatre command center PC, he likes it a lot especially for High End Media control and stuff like that.

The biggest issue is probably drivers for older hardware, if yours is new though you don't need to worry about that.

Ken probably knows more.....

I installed an ATI x1950 pro the day before yesterday, and had a hell of a lot of driver problems. I was seriously blue screened about thirty times that day. I finally found a hotfix though, and now everything is working perfectly.

On an unrelated note, try the free preview of Lord of the Rings Online; it's pretty great.

I've played around around with Vista for around 8 hours. It's a nice system with not too many new features over XP. It totally takes the user by the hand and treats him like a dummy for security reasons. While some people may feel safe with those features it will completely annoy the experienced users. The Parental controls could be useful if they actually didn't block everything including pages that are inoffensive.

Vista is also a bitch with RAM, on an AMD X2 4600+ with 2GB RAM it took over 512MB of RAM while Idle. And Vista hadn't all it's features turned on. So having a computer with 2GB of RAM is definately not a luxery if you plan on runnig Vista.

I'll stick with my Windows XP/ Linux dual boot, as I don't feel the improvements are necessary and even if my computer is powerful enough to run it, why would I want to move to Vista when I get better performances with XP and Linux.
