I guess what I should've really said is, after all the 'tallica and slayer and iron maiden phase that is obligatory I saw Immortal's Call of the Wintermoon video on tv and thought it was the coolest thing ever. After years it ended up to be my favourite parody source. The irony huh? I remember obtaining Immortal - Blizzard Beasts, Emperor- Anthems, Marduk - Panzer Division, CoF - Cruelty and Dimmy - Enthrone afterwards. It hade a huge impact and caused years of closed minded black metal worship for me.

Wow, the nostalgia... It was like 6 years ago. I feel old now.

I can't actually remember, but it was either Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up, the first song off Powerslave which was a blind-purchase cool-artwork thing...

or Evanescence on the radio. :)

Yeah, I hear you on the artwork. The artwork for Anthems/In The Nightside, and the two true Dissection full-lengths really added something to the mystery and excitement of this strange new music.

Especially if you have absolutly no idea whats inside. When system of a down is the definition of metal for you and you get something like that.
I wish I could go back to being naive and feel like that when buying a cd again. There is really no way to capture that feeling again.

I miss feeling like my ears were being raped during Opeth's heavy parts. I don't think I'll ever have that again

Yeah, I have that feeling often too. Those first days back on the old free Napster when I was hearing Nile/Emperor/Hypocrisy/Samael etc. for the first time was an unbelievable experience. There was so much to discover back then.

It's kind of weird to see some of the bands you guys mention...I can't imagine anyone being converted to metal by a black or death band, but I guess it happened with some of us.

I know if I had heard a black or death band back then, I wouldn't be able to comprehend the music at all.

Same goes here. Even when I first started listening to Death and Black Metal bands, I found it quite hard to like it. It took me some time to really enjoy it. Now, all that is history.
