Cowboys from hell was ok but not much else was. Its kinda annoying how much of a resurgance of pantera fans there has been since the whole dimebag thing. At least in my area. Its fucking annoying.

Phi Anselmo and Vinnie need to stop doing stupid stuff like this . These bands that aren't worth giving a shit about being all over the place (in metal terms anyways) just because the guys used to play in an over rated band.

I owned every Pantera album before Dimebag's death, and love all of them (cept for Far Beyond Driven, that one only had a few great songs IMO). I think it's a bit ironic that one of the cheif complaints I hear about Pantera is that Phil's voice and the music in general became much more aggressive and harsh as time went on, when the opposite (bands starting out more brutal and gaining melodicisim as time goes on) seems to arouse controversy about every other popular metal band as well.

Out of all the post-Pantera bands formed since their demise, Down is fucking great, all others are poor to mediocre.

i thinkwhat it comes down to is, metalheads fear change in any direction.
I didn't mean i thought that any one here is like that. People here use their brains (generaly) and don't get inot bands for such stupid reasons.

Yeah, that's unfortunately true.

I was never a huge Pantera fan, but I like their more aggressive stuff most. In fact, Reinventing the Steel is probably my favorite album by them.

Reinventing The Steel, huh? That's when they started getting more groove back. Most people trash that album. Pffft.

Cowboys from Hell is still a killer album IMO. They had good songs on the later albums, but plenty of filler too. Walk from Vulgar Display of Power has some of the most retarded riffing in the history of metal.

Retarded? 9 million bands have covered that song! It's a simple riff, and it's badass. I know a two-year-old can play it, which is why so many bands have covered it, but it's still a badass tune.

i have to agree with Ken on this - (too) simple as it is, it's still a great song. i mean, i guess the reception it got could've been different had another band written it, but in that case i doubt it'd sound as heavy anyway.

my favourite Pantera song must be "Rise", and "Domination" has one of the awesomest riffs (in the beginning and chorus) and solos i've ever heard. but they're a generally badass band (i'm not talking about the pre-Cownboys days, i only heard one song from that era and decided not to dig any further). they're one of the few slower bands that i like.

"Vulgar" holds a special place in my heart though, it was the soundtrack to the first time i got drunk. good times :dio:

I've nothing against simple riffs. I listen to VON and shit. The riff in Walk is still retarded proto-wigger metal.

Opinions are like assholes...

And people get annoyed when I talk about black metal. Haha. Wigger metal. Hahaha. Not even close.

Walk is probably my least favorite Pantera song. I have no clue why everyone else holds it in such high esteem....

Completely agreed. Where is the other fucking half of that riff? And could the chorus get any stupider? RE! SPECT! Wait, yes it can... In the chorus for This Love.

Ya, I like Cowboys and even Power Metal, but besides that, Pantera has always been one of the most overrated metal bands.

I absolutely hate Walk. Its the ultimate skinhead, knuckle-dragger, white trash metal anthem. Everything about it sucks.

And yes I do like some Pantera songs after Power Metal. And Down rocks. :dio:

There used to be a skin head emo band around here and they used to close the set by doing walk.

A buddy of mine bought their CD and wasn't too thrilled with it. He's got notoriously bad taste in music though, he pretty much exclusively listens to Lamb of God and Avenged Sevenfold.

That seems either really contradictory or really fucking lame. Actually just both.
