Do you listen to any non-commercialized metal? Just curious, this is not an attack.

Oh its all cool. I dont know. I like a few Type O Negative albums, older Sepultura (everything up to Roots), Nevermore, and Strapping Young Lad. I dont know if those are considered non-commercial. Sorry if I didnt answer your question.

For me the most depressive albums are Stabbing Westward's

Wither Blister Burn & peel and Darkest Days

how can it not be depressive when an album starts with those lyrics :
"I'm such an asshole
I'm such a stain
I just keep fucking up again and again
You crawled inside my mind when you crawled into my bed
Said everyhting I've ever longed to hear
So perfect, so alive, once inside you sucked me dry
Used me up and left me here for dead "

or better yet:
"There are times when I'm just a shell
When I do not feel anything for anyone
All I feel is hollow and bruised
Used up and misused
Forced to be someone I don't want to be "

I'll second Stabbing Westward- an incredible band with beautifully depressing lyrics

Fuck all that wannabe depressive shit, here comes the real deal:

Gloomy Sunday

Sadly one Sunday I waited and waited
With flowers in my arms for the dream I'd created
I waited 'til dreams, like my heart, were all broken
The flowers were all dead and the words were unspoken
The grief that I knew was beyond all consoling
The beat of my heart was a bell that was tolling

Saddest of Sundays

Then came a Sunday when you came to find me
They bore me to church and I left you behind me
My eyes could not see one I wanted to love me
The earth and the flowers are forever above me
The bell tolled for me and the wind whispered, "Never!"
But you I have loved and I bless you forever

Last of all Sundays

Now maybe its because I don't listen to all ye kiddies' black metal and such and thus am missing the truly depressing metal, but how has nobody here mentioned The Crimson Idol by WASP? My mood always goes something like this when listening to it- Depressed (The Titanic Overture), Angry and shouty (Invisible Boy, Arena of Pleasure), ass kicking and angry (Chainsaw Charlie), introspective (The Gypsy Meets the Boy), rocking (Doctor Rockter- except for the "I'm wasted in the waste lands" part- that just makes me get goosebumps), depressed and frightened (I Am One), depressed (The Idol), really depressed (Hold On to my Heart) and then really really really depressed (The Great Misconception of Me). What an emotional tour de force that album is... does it affect anyone else the same way it does me? And yes, this post is cracked out, but cock.

^ Yeah, one of her scariest works, allong with Women With Steak Knives...

Indeed the Hungarian suicide song, notorious for the amount of people it killed.

+1 , that is a very depressive album, mostly because of the outstanding vocals of Blackie, probably one of the best concept albums ever.

Let me add a couple more to the list:

Radiohead - OK Computer. Actually, Exit Music and The Tourist may very well be the two most depressing songs I've ever heard. And that's saying something!

Opeth - Damnation. To Rid The Disease, in particular, is a tear jerker with that piano melody towards the end.

Nevermore- Dreaming Neon Black

I just picked up that cd a couple weeks ago and I have to say its very gloomy. I think the final 4 tracks and the title track are the most depressing. Very good album though.

'The Lotus Eaters' is probably the most depressing song I have heard.

Sigur Ros - ( ) is definitely up there. But then at the end it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside... sort of like a "life's depressing and sad but there is still a lot of beautiful things" kinda feeling.
