Pretty soon I'm going on a holiday of sorts to the Dominican Republic for a couple of weeks, so no need to resurrect that "where's rio?" thread

Partly I'm excited because I'll only be a few miles from Haiti, which is of course the birthplace of voodoo, and therefore the birthplace of zombi lore, so I consider it something of a spiritual home.

I've never been anywhere with poisonous animals before, what if one sneaks into my room? Aaaah I'm scared

Actually, it's not stepping on a scorpion that worries me, as I am going to make sure I wear sturdy trainers as much as possible... my gf told me about how she'd been digging some irrigation channels in Madagascar, and she grabbed a load of earth with her hands, and just underneath all of it was a nest of black widows

So it's more if I'm picking stuff up and carrying it... or if I forget to check my shoes before I put them on.

i went there in 2003 (punta cana) and i loved it!

the weather's great and the people were usually pretty nice (the women were ugly, though). Punta Cana was great, but we went to the capital (san domingo or something) and it was pretty crappy.

there weren't many nasty creatures in punta cana, save for a few mosquitoes.

Well, that's good about the creatures... I'm not so bothered about Mosquitos as I've done as much to prevent illnesses that I can... got my malaria pills and all that jazz

Malaria pills ain't gonna save yo ass from zombies.

What a time I have had. After chumping up the act of jumping into a river, I managed to fracture my metatarsal a la sporting heroes Wayne Rooney and David Beckham. After being carried up a ravine to hospital by a massive Dominican guy (no mean feat given that I'm pretty heavy), I managed to spend the rest of the two weeks teachng some English and mixing cement whilst in plaster. I took loads of cool photos, but have uploaded them all onto facebook, so you have to see them there if you can because I can't be arsed to put them here right now.

Underneath my cast I managed to cultivate a pretty necro looking pus dripping wound. Then to top it all of I managed to get sick the last few days and become unable to eat. So by Sunday I was hobbling down the street on crutches in Cabarete managing to take approximately the steps before wanting to collapse with exhaustion.

Anyway, it was lot of fun but I'm glad I'm back.

Well, sounds to me like you've got all the symptoms of zombie bite.

Now so do all the neighbours. Hopefully you're all prepared. Start collecting canned goods and ammunition.
