The review really doesn't say much about the album. :?

By the way I call this as Priest's most overrated album.

It's got Breaking The Law on it, what more do you need to know?

Funny, though, it does crop up a lot as the most amazingest thing Priest have ever done.

Yeah, i know Metalcorehammer did an article recently saying that, but most mainstream mags don't have a clue. Its a good album, its just nowhere near Priest's best. Its nowhere near as fast or aggressive as (almost) any of their seventies output and about half of their eighties stuff.

For the definitive version of Breaking the Law you need to get the one from `Priest...Live!` played at 140% speed with an added solo and Halford using his voice properly.

I wish I'd kept my old Hammers, they'd make some great comedy reading now. "What's that you say? Korn the 14th heaviest band ever?!" Thanks anyhoo, SWOD looks to be my next Priest-related buy.

You've got it completely. A few very good songs (Rapid Fire in particular) and good in general but very overrated.

That's my recomendation, start with Sad Wings and move forward through the seventies stuff from there.

This is not a review, it's just some historic facts and some details about the album thrown in there, pretending to be a review. I'm disapointed.

As for the album, yes, it's overrated, and nowhere near 100/100. But it's still a very good album, songs like Rapid Fire, Grinder, The Rage or Breaking the Law insure that. It does sound a bit old though, I feel this is one of Priest's albums that didn't age that well.

All songs they play from British Steel sound WAY better live. Metal Gods kills live.

I like Sad Wings of Destiny better than British Steel, but there are a few kick ass songs in there. I play the album from time to time.

Pppft. I'll never understand why this album gets so much praise, compared to the albums that came before it.

Having given this a fair bit of time to sink in, I like it a lot, even though it's clearly mainstream-oriented. There's some great songs on there, Breaking The Law, Grinder, Living After Midnight, Rapid Fire, hell, even United is good. I don't like that Red White and Blue track stuck onto the remaster that much, but otherwise, thumbs up.

Never been a big fan of this one. I mean it's good, but it sure as hell isn't deserving of Classic status. I guess it gets the amount of praise heaped on to it because there's countless radio hits on it, which is one of the reasons why I don't listen to it all that much.

Good album?...you bet. 100/100? Hell no.

It's not Priest's best album, but it is solid. Plus it was released during a very important time for hard rock and metal. 1980, the year which resurrected the metal/rock genre. So many important albums were released in 1980......this one, AC/DC's "Back In Back", Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades", Iron Maiden's debut album...the list goes on.

It may be a tad overrated, but you gotta love Metal Gods, Breaking The Law and Grinder...they are Priest classics.

I know i may be a little different than the usual Priest fan. My opinion is that I believe British Steel, at the time of release, was the best thing they've done. I enjoyed it more than any of their previous releases...including Sad Wings Of Destiny, which unfortunately I still just cannot get into. Obviously, since British Steel there have been albums which are better, like Painkiller.

One of their better albums for sure, but it's received too much hype...unless the context of the hype was to show how important the album was for this genre at the time of release.
