Its pretty obvious that its Khan who doesn't like playing fast anymore, since even on these two faster songs, the slow bits are when the verses are being sung.

It looks like this is the disease of certain type of vocalists, right? Kiske, Tate, Midnight, Kahn... I wonder why. Perhaps they think slow parts emphasize their voice better, or maybe they think of themselves as songwriters who have become too "mature" for the "silly" speedy heavy metal songs.

I think just in general as musicians get older they become more tame, with a few exceptions.

I really dug this album, at first I only liked the first four songs, and I was saying how it can't compare to The Black Halo. But then it grew on me and it's probably one of my favourite albums this year. Though it still isn't as good as TBH.

For Kamelot it was not quite par. Even for a person such as myself with taste that falls into orchestra's playing behind metal bands I still don't find that this was a good album for them.

There aren't enough fast songs - parts of Silence of the Darkness and the title track are the only real speedy breaks.

Then, on the other hand, there's only one ballad, which is strange for Kamelot.

well it's not like they had many on The Black Halo either....
the only album with many fast songs is Epica. Karma has 3 or 4 max and fourth Legacy 2-3. Most of their songs are mid-tempo which is fine by me. As long as the guitar work and solos are quality I'm in, which is definitely the case with Ghost Opera. My favorite track on the new release is Pendulous Fall, for some reason it reminds me Lunar Sanctum from Fourth Legacy.

My favourite tracks are Blucher, EdenEcho and Rule The World. Regarding that last one, it's also a testament to Khan's talent in that only he could say 'sometimes I tremble like a little child' and not sound gay.

I enjoy listening to Ghost Opera but I expect more from them. I heard in an interview with Roy Khan thati it took him a couple of weeks to write the material. I would expect them to put more time and effort into their song writing. I feel releasing two consecutive concept records hurts Ghost Opera. They set the bar pretty high with The Black Halo. Ghost Opera is a solid effort but when compared to their last two CDs I can understand why people are let down by it. I am still looking forward to seeing them on tour next weekend. Kahn's stage performance is very powerful. He puts a lot of emotion into his singing.

I'm seeing them next week, and it'll be my second time seeing them. Khan sure does give a good show!
