I tend to find it annoying when bands put their lyrics in a color that almost makes the invisible (re: dark VERY dark brown on black background, light-grey on grey background and what have you) like Enslaved's "Frost"... Great album, but my eyes hurt too much in the end from squinting, trying to read those damn lyrics...
If you're gonna include your lyrics, at least make them readable so your fans don't get headaches. That's all.

I hate that too. Also in emperor's anthems and Equilibrium the letters are in that gold where you have to tilt it towards the light to read it.

grr

Stereotypes. This constant need to categorize a band and their sound drives me insane.

I know I'm sounding very FrigidSymphony-ish here, but: Americanisations.

When bands from Europe or wherever need to have voice samples in American accents (see King Diamond or, oh, I don't know SONATA ARCTICA  ), or when American terms are used. Like in Falling from the last Dream Evil album. The lyrics are absolutely woeful anyway, but hearing a Swedish dude singing about having to call 911 it just feel wrong. Unless 911 is the emergency number in Sweden too?

I think it's particularly cloying when British bands do it.

There's a cool song about that on the Wildheart's EP "Don't Be Happy Just Worry" called "Turning American". Ironically Ginger's vocals now are starting to sound a bit US, although I haven't heard their last one.

am i the only one who thinks Reggae completely blows? seriously, it's the most boring genre i've ever seen. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING BAND SOUNDS THE SAME! and that damien marley guy actually has a guy in the live act who just waves around a jamaican flag! FFS!!

i mean, maybe it's like metal to outsiders, to whom iron maiden sounds just like cannibal corpse.

oh and EVERY-SINGLE-GOD-DAMN BOB MARLEY SONG I HEARD WAS COMPLETE SHIT. I'VE HEARD LINKIN PARK MAKE MORE INTERESTING MUSIC.

Reggae is for degenerate drug-addicted leftist youths. The only thing worse than reggae is reggae done by white guys.

If you don't like Marley, fine, but to disgrace something by comparing it to Linkin Park just because you don't happen to get it is ridiculous.

And yes, if it all sounds the same to you, that's just like non-metal listeners who can't tell the difference between Maiden and Cannibal Corpse. If it's for "degenerate drug-addicted leftist youths", then so is metal. That's just the kind of lame stereotyping that metal listeners complain about being heaped on themselves. Don't be hypocritical.

I'm not big into much reggae myself, but I enjoy Marley because it's just relaxing and soulful to me, and I get in a certain mood for it.

Bad Brains is about as close as I can get to reggae. I've had friends who listened to it and it just never interested me. I guess I just can't relate to the oppressed feeling the music arose from.

On another note, I've noticed country music is now trying to make being a redneck a badge of honor. That is fucking lame.

Sorry to bring up the religion theme again (I'm playing catch up still), but I'm an Atheist and what ruined 'Christ Illusion' was the constant bible bashing and especially the shit stirring like the song 'Jihad' did. I mean writing a song from the point of view of a plane jacker!?! I find this-

1. Immorale
2. Insulting to Islam
3. Just written to be controversial

I've well documented that I'm a Slayer fan but their latter anti-christian stuff just bores me. I don't give a shit what a person believes, so it's no big deal if you're Christian, Islamic, Buddist or whatever, I have faith in myself and that's it. I don't like it if someone preached their views to me, but I'll listen politely and discuss as there's no point having a closed mind. I'm actually reading Milton's 'Paradise Lost' which is beautifully poetic if rather a little grating on my judgement.

As for Reggae. I'll listen to it, cope with it and even own some of it so the earlier Marley worse than Linkin Park was a real hum-dinger!

And as for the Americanisms, yep, I hate the fact that Europeans inherit these things. If bands want to adopt that style, then move to America and stay there (I'm thinking Lost Prophets & Bullet for my Valentine here!).

And have you ever heard Ginger from Wildheart's side-project 'Howling Willy Cunt?' Although it doesn't state that it's Ginger's work, his name is all over it. It's real US Country and Western and has nasties on it that would make even GWAR blush!

What's funny is from what I've read Tom Araya is actually quite religious.

Tom Araya is listed as a christian on Conservapedia.com under the entry "heavy metal and spirituality".
Honestly, i'm not kidding.

I didn't know about that side-project actually. I'd always meant to listen to some of his solo acoustic piss ups but have never got hold of it. Silver Ginger 5 had a great song that I heard on a MH compilation CD years ago...
